I read about it in GameInformer. It's an RPG released for the PS2 two or three months ago that takes place in post-apocolyptic Tokyo. The sucker is supposed to rack in at about 100 hours, and be a dungeon crawler. And Dante's in it. I almost bought it yesterday, but decided to wait until I could find it cheaper. Some of the artwork for this game is positively creepy. Like the horse that has eyes all over its body, but not one on its head. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Yes, at the full $50, but here's why. The game's been discontinued, and one auctioned off on eBay for $91. I don't know if it's going to stay that way, but I'd reccomend grabbing it now if you're interested. The one I just bought was the Gamestop's last copy. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? I'd been thinking about maybe getting this game on and off--my mom thought it was too "dark" to buy me for Christmas. (I'm 16, so it's not that much of a difference, right? =]) Though, if I bought it myself, she probably wouldn't really notice. Question is, is it really that good of a game? I heard that it places more priority on fighting and capturing the demons and whatnot than actual story. I'm a Final Fantasy/Chrono player, but I'm not a fan of constant battling. It's fun up to a point. Would you still recommend it? (This is directed at anybody who's played this!) |

But yeah, from what I've seen, it's not appropriate for Christmas. And come Halloween, it'll be long gone. Over here are some thoughts by the only two people at Flying Omelette Forums to play it. Facilitypro's played it the whole way through, and said it was refreshing in a day of easy RPGs and explains some of the mechanics, but so long it was almost exhausting. CloudBond007 only rented it, and he couldn't give any thoughts on in aside from "It makes a lousy rental". Hey, so did Disgaea, but that didn't mean the game was bad. Facilitypro's mentioned a few other things on it. I'll go see if I can dig them up for you. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there! |

Summing up what he said, it's a good game, just insanely long. But hey, if you don't like it and you got the Director's Cut (it seems there's multiple versions of it, since mine says "Limited Edition Director's Cut" on the manual and includes the soundtrack), you can hold onto it for a while and hope it rises in price. I did an eBay search for it, and the overall prices actually aren't bad. It could have been like what I said earlier; that one that went for $91 was the "Special Edition", and these are originals. Or two people got into a bid war. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there! Gender: Posts: 243 Thanks: 6 Thanked 4 Times in 4 Posts | Wow, thanks for the info! =) I don't know if this is a game for me since I like story centered games, but it certainly sounds interesting. Even if it's a crappy game to rent, I might try it sometime so I can get a feel for it. Urk, that's all the time I have to write. I have to finish my minimum-four-page paper for English, and &*(* is it a doozy. O_O I'm really just procrastinating by even writing this. =/ Argh, I'm hopeless! Thanks again. |

| Just Another Face in Red Jumpsuit Join Date: May 2001 Location: Lemmingland Gender: Posts: 19,143 Thanks: 121 Thanked 174 Times in 120 Posts | There's a sequel coming out shortly (if it's not already out), Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga. GameInformer reviewed it, and I absolutely could not make rhyme or reason out of it. When they reviewed Nocturne, they kept whining how it was all gameplay and no story (???). When they reviewed Digital Devil Saga, they kept whining how it was all story and no gameplay (more understandable, but a total 180 from what they were saying makes an RPG five months ago). Then again, all the folks at GameInformer like are Halo and major titles for the systems*. Since the SMT games aren't either of those, obviously they won't like them. Now, I'm not saying Devil Saga is good (I haven't heard anything about it from anywhere but GI, so I don't think it's even out yet), but I am saying GI's review of it was full of crap. I would like to play Nocturne first (brother still has the PS2), but I'll see if I can get Devil Saga and fill in anybody who's interested. * Anyone wanna tell me how else that snoozefest Pikmin 2 got on their Greatest Games of 2004 list? Okay, if you were to ignore the fact the caves are absolute ****, it's as good as the original. But I think it's pretty hard to ignore something that makes up about two-thirds of the game. ![]() Where are these lemmings going? The Super Nintendo Super Shire! Hop in line and follow them there! |

When I read about the game's story, I thought it sounded really interesting. An end of the world scenario, demon party members, and multiple endings. But when you actually play it... I don't know, the dialogue somehow manages to be boring a lot of the time. The combat system is fast paced, and pretty traditional turn based stuff. It's got some depth to it of course, but anyone who's played RPG's before would be comfortable with it before long. It didn't make a good enough impression for me to want to spend $50 on it. But if I ever find it on sale (not likely) I'll probably buy it. | |
