College professors reccomend studying two hours daily for every hour of classroom lecturing. Since the average student attends class for 3 hours daily, that's 6 hours of reccomended studying daily.

Does anybody honestly study that much? It seems improbable that the average college student could every day attend class for three hours, study for 6 hours, eat several meals and snacks, work 6-8 hours, and commute. That doesn't even include time spent participating in extracircular activites, going to parties, socializing, hanging out, and sleeping adequately.

Yeah, that's kinda ridiculous, even if you never go to any parties or anything.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Eh......it really (get ready for the most used word on this forum) depends, as always. It's mainly important to get into a studying schedual that you're comfortable with. Just realize that College is not easy, and to take it seriously. If you feel like you don't know the material well enough, then study. It's not too hard. But the adjustment from high school to college does take time.-jay

I agree.

I realize that studying time is hard to determine due to the numerous variables involved, but the college professors reccomend a mininmum of 6 hours daily. That means that even someone that understands the material well has to spend 25% of their day studying to follow college reccomendations. People at competitive colleges like Harvard might spend that much time studying, but I find it VERY difficult to believe that the average college student even studies two hours daily.

One college professor interviewed for a news article estimated that virtually no students follow the minimum reccomdendation of studying 6 hours daily. Students interviewed for the same article also expressed the view that it was very rare for students to study 6 hours daily.

Therefore I'm assuming that college professors are vastly overestimating the minimum amount of studying required. While you certainly need to take your classes seriously and study the material, that reccomendation is ridiculous.

I'm basically interpreting this statement to mean that it's not neccessary to always study 6 hours daily. If you can understand the material well by only studying moderately and paying attention, then that's adequate.

People I've talked to say that college is a lot of work and sometimes difficult, but it's manageable. You can go to classes, study, work, have extraciricular activites, and have fun. Just keep up with the material and study moderately hard. Is that an accurate assumption to make?

Thanks.

I wouldn't be caught dead studying that much unless exams were approaching, in which case I usually have to spend at least six hours per class. Blech.

I don't really know how to study. I've never had to until now.
