Gender: Posts: 3,010 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | So, I was talking to Bolt on AIM awhile back, and we somehow stumbled upon the subject of education. We were comparing our high schools and I mentioned that HHS used multiple intelligences for teaching. Since he was all, "Buh?" I started explaining... In theory, there are at least 7 intelligences (there's an 8th one being debated about, so it's not really "official.") They are: 1) Mathmatical/Logical 2) Verbal/Linguistic 3) Visual/Spatial 4) Musical 5) Interpersonal (talking to other people about what you learned) 6) Intrapersonal (writing a journal or essay about what you learned) 7) Physical 8) (The much debated one) Naturalistic Everyone has them, but some intelligences are stronger than others. i.e. My language and visual intelligences are tied for first while my mathmatical strengths are dead last. >_< What about yoooooouuuuuu? Does your school do this? Does it not? Do you think this whole thing is a load of bunk? TELL ME NOOOOOOW!! |

Forum. It would be pretty cool if our school did something like that. Hmmm.... Let me try and order myself... Naturalistic? Musical Visual/Spatial Mathematical/Logical Verbal/Linguistic Physical Interpersonal Intrapersonal I think it's a cool idea, but I dunno if it actually should be applied to education. Kinda sounds like horoscopes to me. |

I know a lot more about myself and how I learn thanks to MI. And since I know what stuff I learn easier than others, I can just work on the harder stuff more often. Working on MI in school also means that when you do projects, you don't have to do it one way. You can pick at least four or five different intelligences, apply them to your project, and just customize. It's really coo. Plus, it's nice to just put music into anything that you do for school. Then again around here it was hard enough for me to develop intellegince at all. I think you need t isolate those with an intellegince(Which means shunning much of the local population) before working on the people with more then one. |

From best to worst, I'm guessing this is what I look like: Intrapersonal Musical and Verbal/Linguistic Visual/Spatial Mathematical/Logical Interpersonal Physical Intrapersonal, Musical, and Verbal/Linguistic are very strong in me. Visual/Spatial is quite strong, Mathematical/Logical is slightly above medium, and the other two are extremely weak. [ August 16, 2004, 11:21 PM: Message edited by: Pee Zee Oh Ayche: God Bless ] | |

My school supports "the three A's"--namely Academics, Athletics, and Arts--while admittedly giving the most attention to academics. Most of my teachers make an effort to appeal to different learning styles (visual, audial, kinesthetic, and so forth). What sucks for me is that so many of my classes are discussion-based, and when you're as timid and non-impromptu as I am, your grades (and attention span) in such classes can take a blow. Linguistic: 4 Logical-Mathematical: 4 Spatial: 4 Bodily-Kinesthetic: 2 Musical: 8 Interpersonal: 1 Intrapersonal: 6 In order... Musical Intrapersonal Logical-Mathematical/Spatial/Linguistic Bodily-Kinesthetic AKA Physical Interpersonal Urm... If they say so. Apparently I'm really good at writing stuff? I knew I was musical already, but the intrapersonal so differently placed than I thought is odd. |

Usually, if your teacher knows you well enough, he or she can figure out what intelligence is your strongest. And teachers who follow MI usually teach in different ways so you can figure it out for yourself as well. |

Possible vocations that use the logical-mathematics intelligence include accountant, bookkeeper, statistician, tradesperson, homemaker, computer programmer, scientist, composer, engineer, inventor, or designer. Intrapersonal - the ability to assess one's own strengths, weaknesses, talents, and interests and use them to set goals, to understand oneself to be of service to others, to form and develop concepts and theories based on an examination of oneself, and to reflect on one's inner moods, intuitions, and temperament and to use them to create or express a personal view. Possible vocations that use the intrapersonal intelligence include planner, small business owner, psychologist, artist, religious leader, and writer. |
