What shows are you doing this year? Our Fall Drama this year is You Can't Take it With You, and auditions are the week after school starts. I'm very excited--I've bought the movie and the script, and I'm looking for an audition monologue (I wish they'd just have us do readings from the script--a good comedic monologue for a girl my age is quite hard to find). I've been called back for the romantic lead in almost every high school show I've tried out for, but I always end up either with a character role or in the ensemble. This time I'm really getting my hopes up and preparing well in advance...hopefully not for a big disappointment. |

I'm not going to try out for it, however. I'm in the Advanced class and they get a play all their own in the spring as the final, so i'll be content with that. |

My schedule is going to be too crazy. And I hate how people think they sound all artistic and sophistocated by spelling it "theatre" instead of "theater." THEATER. |

At my high school, I was both a techie and an actor for the various plays we did. I even remember when we did "A Midsummer Night's Dream," our first Shakespearean play ever. People kept coming up to us and saying, "I have no idea what you guys were saying, but it was AWESOME!" |

One year I did "You Have the Right to Remain Dead", a comedy/mystery and I played Harnell, the narrator who is killed. So after the show, people would come up to me randomly... "Hey, you're that dead guy, aren't you? Yeah, you rock, man..." |

We even got to bring in refreshments that started with our letters. I brought "umbrella cookies." They looked more like turds. Elementary 2nd Grade: "The Lion the Wutch and the Wardrobe" I was just one of those animal statue people. 3rd Grade: "Beauty and the Beast" as Chip the teacup 4th Grade: "Little Orphan Annie" as Hooverville Street Sweeper 5th Grade: "The Elephant's Child" as The Crocodile 6th Grade: I think my school was to cheap/lazy to do any sort of production. Jr. High 7th Grade: Wrote and acted in a short parody of "The Night Before Christmas". I was the guy who awoke and saw all the stuff go down. 8th Grade: "In the Dead of Night" as Tim the auctioneer. Its a murder mystery about an auctioneering couple who get caught up in a murder. 9th Grade: "Oliver Twist" as Fagin Wrote, Directed, Acted in the comedy "The Ha Ha Homicide" A Murder Mystery spoof. Part of a theatre class. Played the senile grandfatehr turned slueth. High School 10th Grade: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as Lysander Wrote and acted in "Murphy P.I." as the titular character. Another spoof on the private eye genre. I seem to write lots of parodies. There was a spring production in 10th grade that I didn't try for as it was more or less an all-woman cast with very minor male roles. I have no clue what this year's two plays are going to be, but if I like the scripts I'll definately audition. [ August 31, 2004, 03:49 PM: Message edited by: Phenom Vendetta ] |
