Obviously, everyone deserves to go to school. BUT... What about kids who, say, are the children of illegal immigrants? Or kids who are mentally handicapped to the point where they can't function in a normal class setting? Homeschooling? Parents who don't want their children in public school because of religious beliefs? I just wanted to know your guys' stances on this. It came up in my Mod. Education class, so... I have opinions about this, I'll just post them later. |

Or more accurately, can't afford to make those changes. (I agree with you, BTW, I'm just doing my modly duties in trying to revive my forum) |

All those *******s who don't wanna learn should be kicked out. I hate it when I'm trying to pay attention and some preppy bursts out laughing over some stupid thing her friend said. But I probably missed your point entirely. soo...yeah. |

If they are placed within normal classes, then it can disrupt the education of fully-abled students. |

I used to go to school for one class a day. Now I just don't go at all. Not that this is a good thing. Maybe I should go to school, maybe I shouldn't. I really don't know anymore. </end short and pointless rant> |

And they only go to classes they can actually participate in (Art, for example.) Since when would you want a kid with down syndrome in a History class? |

So yeah, you probably won't see someone with Down Syndrome in history. Sorry I didn't make my point clear enough. |

Epic Ladynerd Join Date: Jul 2000 Location: Forteresse de Valois Gender: Posts: 28,504 Thanks: 1,658 Thanked 1,820 Times in 1,042 Posts | I was homeschooled for the better part of my life and it was the greatest thing that could've happened to me. Schools (in a general sense) are over-crowded and simply CANNOT cater to each child's learning abilities. The idea behind the school system is honourable and I'm all for giving everyone an equal opportunity in life by being educated. However, put into practice... let's just say, the system needs a lot of work and so many more resources to SUCCEED. I plan on homeschooling my own children 'cause the love of learning should be passed down to the next generation, instead of subjecting our kids to the cons of schools. ...And no, I didn't find it hard to meet people and make friends, thankyaverymuch [ October 11, 2004, 04:34 AM: Message edited by: Cryptic tragedienne ] |
