A brilliant way to get education in America back on track or an attempt to federalize education that went HORRIBLY WRONG? =O

YOU DECIDE!

As for my opinion...Well, you guys should know my stance on using tests to measure one's intelligence and set standards. It's just...meh.

Good intentions, but executed all wrong. =/

I don't really understand what the heck No Child Left Behind really is, since no news station ever bothered explaining it.

So since I'm done with public education anyway, I don't care too much about the issue now, heh.

We just need to go back to beating kids in school more often.-jay

Why, look what I found!

Essentially, No Child Left Behind uses a bunch of testing to see if kids in America's schools are keeping up. Good idea on paper, but not every child does well when it comes to testing. And what about really small district schools with only, like, twenty kids? What if some of those kids fail those tests? Then that school gets shut down, since the government thinks, "Oh, well, your school is doing a horrible job of teaching, so you're out!" I mean...what the hell?! o_O

There were also more Pell Grants given with this act instated. But there was less money in those Pell Grants. Which really kind of defeats the purpose of giving out more Pell Grants in the first place... =/

And...I'm going to be a teacher. So I CARE about the children, Jay.

...

The CHILDREN.

But anyway, I really think No Child Left Behind is terrible. The name is a total misnomer. They should change it to "A Bunch of Children Left Behind." Close the schools down and make situations worse...

Personally, I don't believe there should even be a federal department on education.

The No Child Left Behind thing is horrible. They shut down all the schools only to move those kids to other schools (like mine) and now there are nearly 4000 kids in my school, and it was built for half as much. So many kids we needed to add an extra period, and now kids are staying in school till 5:16, and the school is trying to prevent adding another period to get out at 6:00 PM. (Of course, you go into school later. But still)

My school is way over crowded and we have a bunch of idiots who dont want to learn and just talk and scream and dont listen to the teacher. Some of my classes are so horrible in that manner, and they all came from those other schools. It's just making more kids less focused on work.

It sucks.

A prime example of why the states should run their own education systems.

Where did education go wrong?

Somehwere along the lines of when people started graduating without being able to read.

^*nod*

And now...a rant. From my education final, anyway. Huzzah.

Quote:
1. No Child Left Behind: I fail to see how this program is supposed to help students. At all. First of all (according to the presentation, anyway) it stresses teaching to the test. NO. NONONONONO. Tests are not the only indication of how much a child is learning. Some kids are bad test takers. Or hey, I’m decent enough in math, but whenever I take math tests, I don’t do well at all. Do the ACT people really know that I work my ass off in math when my test score for the math section borders between “Below Average” and “Average?” And besides, teaching to the test leaves no real room for flexibility in class. And if a school is really REALLY bad with the tests, what happens? Is the school provided more money to, say, buy more lab equipment or text books? Because gosh golly gee, it’s really hard to learn when there are only enough text books for half the class. Do they get any money to help? NO. Those schools are shut down. SHUT DOWN. THEY ARE SHUT DOWN. That is the most anti-productive thing I have ever heard in my life. And because THOSE schools were shut down, the kids have to go into these different schools that were not made to have more than a certain number of students, which causes overcrowding. Overcrowding leads to not having enough facilities and supplies for the students. So THEY do really horribly on the tests. AND SO THE CYCLE STARTS OVER AGAIN. No Child Left Behind is the most idiotic thing to come out of Bush’s mouth since, “Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
*insert huge ten page rant about the Bush administration in general here....etc., etc...*
I'd better get an A on this...>_>

No Child Left Behind is Bush's money spent on prostrate examinations invested in our children's future, which, consequently, is sh*tridden with Roboteachers
