If you are homozygous for blue eye color, that means all your genes carry the trit for blue eyes--you can't pass on any other colors. But if you're heterozygous, that means that even if only one trait is displayed, you have two. In this case, while you have blue eyes, being heterozygous means you have the allele for green or brown eyes as well, nd could pass those on instead. "Zygous" refers to the zygote, or a fertilized egg, because that is the point when traits are determined. [ February 24, 2005, 09:34 PM: Message edited by: SuperLuigi64 ] |

If it's homozygous, it has two of the same copies of a gene. For example is the genotype is AA or aa, then that gene is homozygous. Heterozygous has different alleles for the gene, having a genotype of Aa. Of course, I might be wrong about this, so you could check Wikipedia for "homozygous" and "heterozygous" |

And there's a way to "predict" the outcome of an offsprings traits w/ alleles, using a Box, called a Punnett Sqaure. (EDIT: Thanks PT.) Here's an example: ![]() This also means that the offspring has a 1/2 chance of carring the Green eye trait ALONG with the blue eyes. If the offspring has green eyes, they're purebred, so to speak, for that one particluar trait. For blue eyes, they can be either mixed(heterozygous) or pure (homozygous.) A little fun fact also: Sometimes, in rare cases, BOTH traits will appear. For instance the offspring could have one blue eye and one green eye. Or have both eyes with an odd mixture of green and blue. [ February 24, 2005, 10:06 PM: Message edited by: Beam Yosho the Drunkard ] |

Capital letters mean a dominant gene and lowercase mean recessive. Ex: Brown hair is dominant (B) Blonde hair is recessive (b) Yes, yes? Homozygous: BB, bb(only displays the trait B for brown hair or b for blonde hair; manifests as brown or blonde hair) Heterozygous: Bb(holds the traits B for brown hair and b for blonde hair; becuse Brown is a capitl letter, it is considered the dominant trait; thus, the hair will show up as brown hair. Occasionally, traits will mixed, resulting in dirty blonde in this case) By the way, memorizing the Punnett Square is the most effective way to deal with questions of this nature, as drawing one out will almost always give you the answer. |

Does the mass of a nucleon after it has been pulled from an atomic nucleus depend on which nucleus it was extracted from? |
