Okay, I had to bring this arguement back.

I was recently watching something with two students giving their opinoins on school uniforms, one student for, one against.

I had predicted what both were going to say, the girl, for uniforms said the following:
"Uniforms keep you focused on school so you don't have to worry about what you're wearing and it takes all the pressure off. It also keeps you from getting embarrased for not having the "in" fashion."

Okay 2 Reasons why the above statement is bull.
1. If it takes you THAT much time to pickout an outfit every morning, you have problems, I can go in my closet, pick an outfit, and put it on in less than a minute, in fact, with the new dress code instaled at my school, I'm too busy trying to find something that I won't have to worry about being to long ot tuck in. IF you're gonna make kids wear school uniforms, don't give any crappy bull, just do it.
2. I haven't heard anyone get talked about for outfits since middle school, c'mon now, by High School, you're mature enough to know that clothes don't make you, elementary schoolers, they all dress pretty goofy, and middle schoolers will live, cause when they get to high school, they'll see fashion is nothing but a fopah itself.
3. People all tightwatted in fashion are the "OMG TYPE" girls, tell you what, I've never seen any actual OMG girls like in the movies, you know the ones all stuck up? I've seen stuck up ones, but preppy and stuck up are too different things that are over magnified on one area, sorta like music.
I've never seen anyone get in a fight or arguement about outfits. STOOOPID.

The student against uniforms made the following statement:
"I think that uniforms take away from part of individually and expressing myself."
Partially yes, partially no.
That is the most used excuse for opposing uniforms everywhere, personally just come out and say it:
I don't want uniforms because I don't think they're needed, now if a school dress code was CONSTANTLY being broken, then yes, I could see a use for uniforms, BUT, for the most cases, they do it to do it.

I'm a Junior, I've lived with a strict dress code (polos, oxfords, khakis, pleated skirts) since seventh grade, and in all these years I've never had trouble "expressing myself." I don't understand what it is people find so unbearably painful about school uniforms. I do have to buy two wardrobes, but this isn't all that problematic since I can get away with wearing the same two or three outfits for an entire week.

I don't see why it's a big deal either way.

Uniforms aren't really that bad. Besides, there be things that some people SHOULDN'T be wearing in the first place. >.<;;;

While I don't mind uniforms, I'll be glad that I don't have to wear them for college.

My problem has never been the "individuality" angle; I can quite well express myself regardless.....which is part of my problem. See, the people who make fun of other people's clothes will make fun of ANYTHING they don't like about someone, such as their personality or sense of humor or hair color or voice, etc.; so the "uniforms prevent teasing" argument really is worthless.

Also, all the uniform clothes I've ever had to wear have been stiff & itchy & not in any way whatsoever cut for my body type--no wonder I couldn't run right when I was little--as well as expensive, and yes, for some families (especially in the public systems that have dress codes) cost IS an issue.
Heh, my sister's high school has such a strict dress code that they can only get their uniforms at ONE location of ONE store IN THE WORLD (and it's even more expensive than most such stores; true we're not in the public system, but still).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

See, that's my main problem with uniforms.

I just don't like wearing dressy clothes.

We have uniforms but it's not bad at all really. Technically we all have to buy from the shcool supplier, but in reality you can find any casual "dress" pants adn wear those. Most people don't care if you wear the school sweater either, but there are few teachers who do.

I used to think my school's dress code was unbearably ugly and uncomfortable, but after five years I've gotten so used to the dress code that my school clothes almost feel more comfortable than my "real" clothes do.

It's written that our clothes are supposed to be "indistinguishable" from those in a certain catalog, but we can buy them wherever we want. But no one, not even the faculty really pays much attention to the "indistinguishable" bit.

I don't like school uniforms. Heck, I'm in mine right now. It doesn't feel as good as wearing casual clothes.

My school has a dress code, and I don't mind it.

It's true that students behave better in uniform than in casual dress. When we have dress down days, my teachers can't get people to settle down.

Okay, and there are some flaws to your statement

1. If they are saying it behind your back, why the hell should it bother you?

2. With the rowdyness statement, it depends on your school, I guess maybe after being in uniforms all year and then finally being able to wear whatyou want, maybe you would get a little rowdy, I don't know, I never had to wear a uniform. My school doesn't have many dress code violations, the most probably just being (before this damn new code) were saggy jeans, saggy as in, damn your underwaer is showing, I mean, my jeans sag, but you can't see my underwear (I guess since I wear XXL Tees, but that's not the point), we had no one fight over being picked on over school uniforms, that's this area at least, but we ARE in Memphis, so there is one credible reason.

Where you are, perhaps. Definitely NOT at my high school.
And as I've mentioned elsewhere, the people at my code-less college seem to be handling themselves civilly.
