Every sentence out of my 6th grade teacher's mouth ended with either "TAKS" or "test". Is the State Test seriously what matters? I think we should be taught more about money management, commitment, and resolving a conflict. Life is not all about "filling in the bubble/oval". I live in a very good school system, but there are still ALOT of problems. *clears throat* Ahem. I live in Weatherford, Texas, and I live relatively close to the Wilmer-Hutchison school district. With Mr. Bush (nicknamed "The All-American ******* in a recent poll) passing the "No child Left Behind" law, they have gotten a healthy sum of money for the school, which is a good idea, because their district is falling apart. The money has not been used in any way to help the school. This money comes from good school systems like mine and others. I can make a good assumption that this is happening in other systems too. I think this needs to stop. I thought this topic should arise, even if we might not be able to stop it. For once in my life I am being serious.*stumbles back* If you agree or not please tell me what you think. ![]() |

Nay, I do believe my hatred for that Federal Act alone may extend towards infinity. |

Definitely standardized tests (one a year from 1st-11th grade), but nothing that MO actually produced. We never put a whole lot of emphasis on the tests either. The 1-8 tests were always near the beginning of the year, so we could forget about 'em after that, and the high school ones were just one day, so even the prep work didn't take much out of us. The whole "test thing" is all that matters for any and all Texas teachers. Possibly others. What system do you go to, Andi? To CaptHayfever: We have to pass the test to get to the next grade. If I didn't make an above 70 on the test, I would not have gone to 7th grade, and the same goes for the 5th graders. We always (and still do) had them at the end of the year. What system do yougo to, Capt? I'm sorry if I seemed angry about the fact about the test, but I was just LIVID when I heard my Uncle (in Houston) say the "No Child Left Behind" was a good idea. I figured I could get help from everyone at VGF. I am asking about the systems to see where they are and aren't doing this monstrosity. Thanks, Y'all. ![]() |

My system was the Archdiocese of St. Louis. I'm in college now, though, so no more standardized tests, period. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

The 'East' is actually in the name. Finals are for individual courses (and are usually written by the professor), not overall class level. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

Now they have a new test which is much harder to pass, since Algebra II is a prerequisite for passing the math section. ![]() "There are some who call me... Link?" ![]() "Carpe Gaium Domesticum!"
