Someone died at school on Friday

Not that this hasn't happened before, but I just learned that it was someone I knew. Not very well, but still someone I knew. I mean, we've followed each other since kindergarten. She was always so pretty and popular, and I thought she'd have a wonderful life ahead of her, but on Friday she was killed in a car accident.

I don't know why I feel so strongly about someone I hardly knew. Maybe it's just because even though I didn't know her that well I always knew she was there, and now she isn't. I don't know if I've ever even spoken a word to her.

Man, that sucks, Val. I can only imagine how it can feel when someone of your age dies.

It must be that she's so close to your age, at your school, so close to your way of life. And she died. You're unsettled because it could have been you. At least, that's how I would feel.

...****.

It must be some sort of sick game to mess with people that have done nothing wrong. CSM with his week, MH with his dad and girlfriend, and Bomby with his apartment.

Times like this really make you think about what you've done and how you're going to progress with humanity, instead of falling into the fold of everyday life.

I've looked back through some pictures, and I found out she was in my kindergarten class. Not only that, she was probably the first girl to ever have a crush on me. She asked if we could be partners on our field trip to the zoo, among other things. Heh... it's really hard just remembering all this at once.

I hardly knew her... yet this thing has been weighing me down all day. I guess this is the closest thing to losing a friend I've had yet.

She's the one on the left... I always thought she was so pretty.

She is really pretty. Stuff like this hurts everyone that the person has ever touched. It's hard to imagine that someone in a world so close to yours could suddenly not be there anymore. It's so mind-boggling when stuff like this happens. When someone you know dies, it's like you just want to world to stop and drop everything to pay respect to the person, but the world keeps moving on. I guess, in a sense, it's a good thing but it's still hard to catch up.

When you said 'at school' I thought you literally meant she died during the school day.

Man, that sucks.

Man, sorry to hear that happened. It's strange: you see a person many days in your life, but you barely speak to them, then they're just...gone.

A Seventh Grader that went to a school I went to for Sixth grade apparently died sometime earlier last hear. I was thinking, "Man, if I had actually stayed at that school, I may have seen that kid, or known him."

Yikes, dude. How did it happen?

Please excuse my morbid curiosity, but I'm no stranger to young people dying. I wish things like that didn't happen in this world, but I've lost two close friends already. One was my closest friend, at the time, and another was probably one of my closer internet friends. We had only met in person once, but after that he was always talking about moving to Cleveland, where I and a few other people he knew had been living. That was perhaps more traumatic, because of the circumstances (his brother had murdered him, I'll spare you all the details).

Keep your chin up, life goes on. It's never exactly the same life you thought you'd have, but sometimes reality throws a curve ball.

OregonLive.com - Banks mourns after Hillsboro teen dies Kaylee Tawzer is the 4th Banks HS student to die in the last three years
Her car was hit by a truck shortly after school ended, just before the Homecoming game. She died later at the hospital.

This is the class photograph from my kindergarten class. I scanned it today and uploaded it. I'm the strange-looking kid named Robby Ryan...

Kaylee was so pretty, even back then.

You look pretty normal to me there, Val.

I understand your feelings. I can't say I've ever really been in your situation before, seeing as my family moves around a lot because of my dad's job, but I can imagine what it would be like to lose someone who was always around.

Hope you get through it alright, Val.

It's a real wake up call when things like this happen. As said before, the whole "that could've been me" thoughts occur. I've had to deal with some things like this also, but keep your head up and know that you learned something from that person.

It was the same way here when Knux died, none of us knew that kid personally (maybe one or two had met him) yet it was a huge loss for all of us when he died. His presence alone made this place so great and so fun to come to, sometimes I expect him to just pop in talking about not eating salmon, I or someone else would call him kunx and Tikal would call him a slut. It's so wierd just seeing his old posts now.

...Is it weird, that I still can't stop thinking about this?

I never talked or had direct contact with her since kindergarten.

No, it's not wierd. Death (and life), is a crazy thing, they do something unexplainable to us. I just found out my old youth minister died of a heart attack on Tuesday, it saddens me because he was one of those people who pushed me to do better than I was doing. He was so much more than a minister to me.
