Gender: Posts: 3,108 Thanks: 648 Thanked 129 Times in 87 Posts | This is a letter I wrote to my principal. Mr. Carroll, I would like to inquire into the theatre etiquette that was blatantly absent at the showing of The Diviners. I was attending the show on Monday, and I have to say that the overall attitude and behavior of the students also attending the play was abysmal. It took at least half of the production for a select few in the middle to be addressed, while the only reason the gentleman in front of me decided to stay his mouth was because he was called to go home. This is entirely unacceptable. Those young men and women worked incredibly hard to make that play what it was: brilliant. Yet the audacity of the student body took me quite aback in their lack of manners to these performers. Is it not the job of an usher to stifle disruptions and encourage well-behaved audiences? If not, then I ask you, what were the teachers doing while my viewing was through rose-colored glass? Take a minute and imagine if a type of media outlet was there, or an undecidedly generous charity worker? If Weatherford, not even the Ninth Grade Center alone, is to grow and prosper to what I know it can be, it all starts at the foundation of our youth: school. If Fine Arts is pushed aside for hooligan antics and socializing, then these children are already far more ahead in social decline than I could possibly imagine. I ask you, not as the man with the most power in the building, not as the man I understand you to be, or the excellent administrator that I’ve seen. I ask you as a fellow art enthusiast. Will this be addressed, or are the students at the WHS Ninth Grade Center truly that lost? With all due respect, Josh Moran. |

As a slightly related tangent, on the night that the one-act I'm directing goes up, I plan to give the audience a turn-your-phone-off warning worth remembering. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" | |

| Senior Member | Going off topic a bit here but my high school was WHS(Wells high school). The plays were always well received at my school and there's nothing better than watching your friends act on stage. It's also a shock at who the actors may be. I'm sorry your school is not mature enough to sit through a play. What was The Diviners about? Your a freshman, and I remember from experience how immature 9th graders can be. My grade wasn't thankfully but the guys below us while they were in the ninth grade were awful. They got kicked out actually. Did your school kick people out for being rude? |

Good job on calling the authorities, man. The people who put on that show deserve it!! D:< In all seriousness, I'm glad you're doing something. That's the only way changes get made. ![]() |

Heh, I remember when we did "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" our cellphone warning was somewhere along the lines of "Mr. Salter will eat you" Mr. Salter was our 400 lb (at the time) theater teacher. Such fun. |

You'd direct a punchline STRAIGHT AT THEM and they seriously stared at me with their mouths agape and their eyes half-closed. They looked dead. I don't know which audience is worse. :/ |

God, I want out of here so bad. |

When I was 13 or 14 I knew the difference between completely right and wrong, especially when it came to somebody dying. |

If, by the time you're 13, you don't know what common courtesy is, I would feel no remorse in bitchslapping you. Yes, I realize that's not exactly the nicest thing to do, but it will teach you a lesson. ![]() |

Not so much during the performance, but even then, saying that they're too immature to get it isn't an excuse. They should have been good, and if they weren't, they should have been policed. Neither of which happened, sparking this letter. Last edited by Demonicus Prime; 04-02-2008 at 06:29 AM. |
