Wait, you took Adv. Calc before Calc 3? Wowsers.

GOT 'EM!
Play Direction: B
Stage Lighting: A
Logic: A
Discrete Math: B (ha!)

Degrees completed:
BS Mathematics
BA Mathematics
BA Theatre

Degrees awarded:
BS Mathematics
BA Theatre
(Due to some stupid restriction, I was not allowed to get both math degrees, despite completing both sets of requirements.)

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Um, the BC test covers Calc 1 and 2.

If you have a BS in Math, you don't really need a BA in Math as well... (What the heck is a BA in Math, anyway?)

A BS is typically a stronger degree than a BA. Don't fret over it.-jay

Math is one of the classical "arts." There used to only be BAs in it; according to my advisor, the BS degree for math didn't even exist until a couple decades ago.

Considering the differentiation between the two (at Truman, at least) has nothing to do with the actual math courses, I would assume that they're regarded equally. I just wanted some official recognition that I finished 3 programs in 4 years.

I guess I can see that. Still, my point about BS over BA still stands. In today's society, it's a stronger degree. Since a BS means that you've taken at least a few technical courses. Of course, if you're not interested in that kind of thing, then it doesn't really matter.

I can also see why they wouldn't give you the extra degree. How many extra courses did you have to take to get the BA?

I didn't take any technical courses. I fulfilled the BS requirement with an extra Chem class (dual credit from high school, at that) and a Symbolic Logic course. The BA requirement for any eligible major at Truman is simply intermediate proficiency in a foreign language; I completed SPAN 201 & 202.

I'm in the weird position of having taken Discrete Math before Calculus, myself. @_@

In that case, I'm sorry, but I'll definitely have to agree with the school administration. Two extra courses an extra degree does not make.

Anyway, congrats on completing a college degree. That in itself is a great accomplishment.

And MM, there's nothing weird about taking Discrete Math before Calc. The two have nothing to do with each other (from what I remember).-jay

Linear homogenuous recurrence relations of degree K have something to do with it and/or the other branches of math in that area, if I remember correctly.

The strange part is mostly they let me do that and yet I may still have to fight some to get allowed into Calculus... the difficulty level in Discrete math is about as high as it gets in this community college setting. *shrug*

Unless there's a form of Calculus that doesn't require continuity, Discrete has nothing to do with Calc.

Jay, the reason it really bothers me was that mine was the first class affected by that rule (previously, students could get both degrees in a field), and it seems to have been implemented solely to avoid paperwork.
At least they couldn't stop me from getting both the Math & Theatre degrees.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Well, there is in a way, in the form of Numerical Methods, Finite Difference Methods, and the such. But Discrete Math doesn't really cover that at all. And typically those are graduate level classes. Discrete Math is much more involving sets, logic, and graphs. Like I said before, nothing odd about taking it before Calc.

I see. In that case, it is kind of lame. In reality though, the extra BA won't really help you out at all when looking for jobs, so don't feel too bad.

Feel proud of the fact that you were able to get two separate degrees (math and theatre) in 4 years, which is an accomplishment and not easy to do.

And I understand your frustrations, because my university gave me a lot of trouble and annoyances while I was completing my double degree in environmental engineering and computer science.

Finally got all my grades!

Honor Choir: A
Social issues in contemporary America (Honors): A
Intro to Literature (Honors): A
The Physical Universe (Honors): A
Fourth Semester Spanish: A
Acting (Honors): A

I'm happy, considering most of my classes were for honors, therefore much more difficult than last semester where I only had about classes for honors. First semester of college passed with a freaking 4.0!
