Gender: Posts: 3,108 Thanks: 648 Thanked 129 Times in 87 Posts | This is a letter I wrote to my school body. It'll explain. My name is Josh *****. A lot of you may know me, a lot of you may not. In what I’m about to say, it is irrelevant. As most gossip goes, it gets around quite fast. On this day of remembrance, there is no difference. If you have been out of “the loop” for the day, I will enlighten you. There were a group of protesters at the front of the main building this morning. The purpose, as I was told while they tried to recruit me on the way to class, was to protest the fact that they were going to school on the anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks seven years ago. I’m going to be quite frank right now. That made me sick. Taking credibility away from real protesters, ones that plan and coordinate the activity, and petulantly demeaning one of the worst scars on the face of American history because they didn’t want to go to school is just disgusting. In any hierarchy of importance, a reverence for the dead is fairly high. But in the big picture, the one of ours as Americans, school is one of the most important assets and things we can do as a whole. Noone from the UN is going to listen to someone that even comes close to petulant, let alone a high school dropout. That is where we truly can make a difference. Get through high school. Get a good job. Give back to your community. Love. Hate. Be human. The purpose of a terror attack is exactly its root word. To instill terror. By not being afraid, and by doing what you know is right, instead of childishly fighting against what so many people don’t have, you can truly accomplish what a protest is about, and subsequently, what being an American is about. Patriotism, and Your ability to choose. Were there any similar incidents? |

And I'm proud of you for writing that letter - it's concise, and exactly my feelings on the subject. People who try to exploit national tragedies for days off of school is ridiculous. Good for you! |

I thought it was just sick to think of it like that. What next, they want November 7th off for the release of Gears of War 2? Honestly, it's just stupid. |

I don't agree with the insinuation that the public education system functions for the better of all students. |

On a day like that, the real idea of patriotism, not the lapel-pin bubble-gum bull****, is really quite valuable. We'd still be burning women for things they didn't even do. If we're on the track we have now, who knows how open things will be for my kids and their kids. |

| Senior Member | I think that while 9/11 was a terrible day, it shouldn't be a school holiday. Making it a school holiday just makes it bring back all of the pain and memories from that day. Weren't you scared to death on that day that we might all die? Why would you want to remember that? Then again, why are you trying to butter up with the school faculty by writing a letter about something you weren't involved in? |

| Senior Member | Maybe I said what I said wrong. Him voicing his opinion on his fellow classmates is a risk socially. How was that kid who wrote a letter because the kids during the play were getting rowdy? I'm sure he was met with criticism from his fellow classmates. I could never put myself in that situation personally. |

I'm sure if someone had a problem, they would say it to me directly. Which is why I seldom have problems. To the "buttering up" thing. No. I think school is important. Just not neccesarily the most important asset. EDIT: And that "kid" is me. I'm fine. Thanks for asking. |

It tells me you're really popular. However, it also says you're a tool. You'll say whatever to get whatever. You're like a bundle of lies wrapped with a cake and a bottle of beer; lot of fun on the outside, lot of **** on the inside. I'm sorry. Was me saying that too much of a social risk? Sorry. I'll repent and go hang out with my homies. |
