He began wafting through one of his father’s secret drawers when he found a secret file named ‘Poison’. He picked it up and saw a formula for poisonous ice-cream that showed no trace of the poison. He liked it. You see, Sly, being one of the smartest kids in his school, understood just about everything he heard or saw. He was tall, about 5’ 7’’ and age 14. His face was clear, and had extremely light blue eyes and blonde hair with black accents. He also volunteers for almost everything possible. But he was thirsty for something bad, considering he and everyone in his family was thought to be so good and perfect. So, he decided to take this opportunity to strike; to cause pain, death, and violence. He began his rampage by grabbing the formula and photo-copying it. Then he put the original back and the copy into his backpack. Afterwards, when home, he began studying over the formula. “Add a pinch of sugar and then add the snake venom….” “Sly, are you in there?” said Sly’s little brother Jonathan as he entered the room. “Might have you found my teddy. I miss him; I would like to have him NOW.” “I don’t know. Maybe you should go check in that shoe box over there.” “My teddy! Charlie! And what is this...? New shoes, no way! You’re the best, Sly!” “Why don’t you go try on your new shoes and show them to Mom. You’ll have a jolly good time.” After Jonathan had left, Sly decided to devise a plan to begin selling the ice cream. He figured that he would make his first batch at the factory the next day, and then see where things go from there. Sly had many friends who could help him get ingredients without caring to know what they were for, so he was able to be ready by the time he left for the factory. He stored them all into his backpack and trotted down to the factory that was ten blocks away. Might as well get the exercise while I’m at it, thought Sly. By the time he got to the factory, five minutes had elapsed. He greeted his dad and then headed over to his ‘office’ that was just a spare room that his dad didn’t need. He laid out all of the ingredients on his desk and figured out where to start. The workers in the factory were too busy to catch anything out of the ordinary, so he was able to grab some unfinished ice cream cones effortlessly. His dad also had a minuscule ice cream maker for him in case he wanted to make a couple of ice cream cones himself. After the batch had been completed, he treaded on back home to freeze them into ice cream. He flung his door open and quickly closed and locked it shut, and then set the ice cream into his mini freezer next to his bed. Job being completed, he ran out to make everyone dinner. Just before he was about to enter the kitchen, he remembered to lock his door shut in case Jonathan felt like he had to treat to his sweet tooth. He locked the door and then put the key underneath the rug that lay below. Sly left to go make dinner, regardless of the fact that Jonathan had been watching the whole time. Jonathan grabbed the key from under the rug, unlocked Sly’s door, and then tiptoed inside and grabbed one of the ice cream cones. “Okay, I’ve set the table mom. Now, time to finally eat! Where’s Jonathan?” “I don’t know”, said the mom, “I haven’t seen him lately. Would you mind checking around? Maybe he’s sleeping in his room.” “Sure mom. I’ll be right back”. Sly trotted around the house, looking for Jonathan. Maybe he’s with dad at the factory, thought Sly. No, if he were at the factory today then Dad would’ve already brought him home… Realization finally dawned over Sly. He quickly ran over to his bedroom door, finding it unlocked. He kicked the door open to find little Jonathan hunched over on the floor, showing a variety of signs of being incredibly sick. The untraceable poison actually worked. He looks like he has a severe case of pneumonia, not of being poisoned. Sly immediately picked Jonathan up and sprinted over to the kitchen where the mom was placing the finishing touches on the roast beef. She glanced over, and looks of pure horror covered her face. Sly knew that this was his entire fault. Because of him, little Jonathan was going to die. Killing was not a good thing, it only hurt innocent people. Sly entered the hospital where a doctor was whispering to a nurse. Sylvester cautiously marched to the wall and listened in on the conversation: “This child has the same symptoms of at least ten other patients we’ve had here. I checked some files and they showed that over the past year, handfuls of people have died of what was thought to be pneumonia, but showed no viruses in their body or anything”, said the doctor. So, his father had been using the poison. He had been killing people, torturing them with this poison. Something had to be done about this, but what? The only thing that he could think to do was confront his dad about this. He lightly walked outside as to not attract attention and called a cab. When he got to the factory he strolled in and went to his father’s office. He wasn’t there. He asked a couple of workers, and they had no idea as well. He rode a bike home and looked around: empty. That didn’t much surprise him, his mom was spending all her time at the hospital. His dad was nowhere to be found, unless he was somewhere at the hospital. He called yet another cab and traveled over there. He went over to the lobby and asked the person that was there if she had seen a David Sprinkle anywhere. “Have you seen a David Sprinkle anywhere? It’s very urgent.” “Yes”, said the nurse, “he’s on the fifth floor, room 211.” Got him. That sick deranged man was in Jonathan’s room… Sly sprinted up to room 211 and saw his dad sitting there next to his mom, watching over Jonathan. “Dad? Might I have a word with you? NOW?” “Um, sure son… Of course. One moment.” David kissed his wife, and then trudged over to the bathroom with Sly. “Dad, I’m just going to spill it all out. Why did you have that poison?” “Son, I don’t know what you’re talking about” “Dad, don’t do this to me. I’m not a kid. I deserve the truth. I found this formula in one of your secret cabinets. Why do you have this?” “I still have no idea of what you’re talking about”, said the dad with hopelessness spread across his face. Sly grabbed the collar of his dad’s shirt and with incredible strength picked of the 6” man and heaved him against the wall. “TELL ME!!!!” “Fine”, said Mr. Sprinkle in a hushed whisper, “what happened, was this man who’s name wasn’t familiar to me one day walked into my office holding a gun to my head told me that if I didn’t begin selling these poisonous ice cream cones then he would slaughter my family. Considering the fact that he was pointing a gun at my head made me believe him in an instant.” “How can I be sure you’re telling the truth?” asked Sly. “Son, I would never do a thing to hurt you, or Jonathan or anybody. And I definitely didn’t do this to Jonathan. The monster that did will pay wholeheartedly. I assure you that son.” Sly felt horrible. He gently let go of his dad’s shirt and began to weep in his dad’s arms. “Dad, innocent people are dying. There must be a way to end this. What do you remember about the guy?” “His name was Drake. That’s all he told me. And he wore a long black coat, shades and a hat. All I could see of him was a black beard.” “Well, we should head over to the factory and see what we can find.” By the time that they made it there, fifteen minutes had gone by. They sprinted into Mr. Sprinkle’s office and Sly began looking through the files. “How about some ice cream son?” |
