They don't really do it in college, but even when I was in high school they didn't do anything resembling a detention that wasn't flat-out suspension. They basically believed it was worthless since most kids who were in detention numerous times would just get on out and do it again. But then again...can oyu really say the same about suspensions? Most kids I knew would treat Suspension as a free vacation from school so they didn't give two craps about being suspended so they could do all they want. I still say they should make kids do community service after awhile. Considering that some of those little Beavises would be suspended for doing stuff like lighting the toilets on fire or making extreme messes in the bathrooms they really needed to give some of these kids community service instead of just letting them sleep at home or light a urinal on fire somewhere. |

They have lunch detention and afterschool detentions at my school. I've been to lunch detention a few times before, although those were during my Freshman year. |

I don't know if anyone's else did, but ours built, after x detentions, you went to ISS, after x ISS's you got suspended. |

And they wondered why the bad performing students attacked the smarter ones? Then there was the time I nearly got suspended for kicking a guy in the balls. Said guy was only choking me to death and apparently I should have allowed myself to pass out and perhaps suffocate. Yeah. |

Forgot what they had at the second one I went to. Both had expulsions I'm pretty sure. I never did anything stupid enough to get suspended out of school, but when I got sick of the other student's antics (they never really acted out, they were just verifiably stupid and I'm intolerant of people like that) I'd go to sleep and usually get a free ISS - either way I won because I got a little nap and some time to finish homework I didn't do the day before. |

It is also a financial burden I think and would be cheaper to have the kids stay in a room for 30-60 minutes a day quietly in a room. |

If what you did wasn't too bad you would get detentions individually by the teacher(The other ones were in a big room with everyone else from other classes who had detentions), and she'd keep you like 15 minutes just long enough so you would miss your bus. |

You got a name on the board as a warning, then 15 minutes off of recess for each check that followed it. It could overflow to the next day if necessary. My high school did a demerit card. If you got 5 demerits, you got an after-school detention on the following Monday for like 90 minutes. That was the same if you got all 5 in one week or if you spread them out over a semester. Everyone got a fresh card at the start of each semester (or, of course, if they filled theirs up). Both had ISS (you had to sit in someone else's class all day, getting 0s on the stuff you weren't doing) & OSS (used mostly for offenses that represented a danger to other students). The only expulsion I ever heard of in grade school was for bringing in a gun; high school only expelled kids who did something profoundly illegal or just did a whole lot of suspension-worthy things. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

Deal with it. Evil teacher make you stay 10 minutes after class? Deal with it. Detention time cutting into your aunt's funeral? Deal with it. That might have just been my school, though. |

oh yeah, as said by Rubberband Man, Zero Tolerance. :| It's a load of bullcrap. They didn't even BOTHER to suspend me, when I was caught in a fight where I did not even throw any punches (Since I KNEW that would get me expelled if I punched him and broke his nose since it'd make me look like the aggressor), they told me that if that happened again, then they wouldn't even BOTHER suspending me and expel me. When I told my parents, they were shocked and appalled. Immediately, they dialed the phone and cussed out the principal. surprised he didn't expel both me AND my sister just cause our parents were such jerks. (My mom in particular since she went to Catholic school and you would have been REWARDED if you were in a fight and just blocked without striking) And seriously, I saw a girl get sexually harassed and she got SUSPENDED. :| | |

One of my friends (a senior, straight A student) brought his jump drive to school, and having completed all assignments, decided to have some fun on the computer by bringing in a games from his home computer. That day, the school implemented a "No Games" policy. School computers are for school and school alone. Got suspended, his jump-drive confiscated, and lost his computer privileges for the rest of the year. Whoopee. *more to come* __________________ |
