Well, recently have a bad spell of luck(and on my birthday... well the day after). I currently have two Trojan viruses running amuck like frolicking ****ing schoolgirls on my PC, and I've no idea what the hell to do with him. We don't have any pay antivirus software, only McAffee(which blows) Virus Guard.

Recently, my internet browsers have been closed for no reasons, have frozen every two clicks, lagged, disspataed into thin air, remained behind even after deleting them, and my computer has now officially instigated the shut down process(and succeeded) without my consent.

Can anyone help?

AVG is an excellent free anti-virus program which you can set to run automatic checks and updates. You can get it from here:

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

There's also a handly little program called CWShredder which removes some of the nastier Trojans. Also free of course, you can find it here:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=sp#det

Click on CWShredder and it'll start d/ling.

Remember to update all your anti-virus protection and such EVERY week. The people who make those programs are very good with updates. Good luck with removing the buggers and if you need anymore help, just ask

Oh yea! (an afterthought oO) If you don't already have it, be sure to get Zone Alarm. It'll help keep out some of the viruses, trojans and various spyware that would otherwise have a free ride in and out on programs accessing the net.

I actually had a problem very similar to that not so long ago... I had no free reign over my own computer. My problem was spyware, but hey, same thing right?

I had to format my entire hard drive to fix it... hope you fare better.

I would like to say AVG is working. But it isn't. It has scanned all infected files, but has not done... a... THING. They aren't being stored in the virus vault, and I can't delete them.

And just to rub it in -- I constantly get these popup windows declaring I have viruses(MANY) on my computer and I should run AVG to delete them.

Erdawn, I've been advised to ask you if you've run the AVG update yet? Try that. Run CWShredder first after CLOSING all other screens. Run Spywareblaster AFTER that still with all other screens closed THEN run AVG with all screens closed. Then please post back here with the results.

Same thing happens to me with my virus scanning program sometimes. I generally just take it on faith that the virus has been killed, but I run Spybot S&D and other programs every now and then just to be sure.

Hmm... try the most recent version of Ad-Aware? It really is a good Virus Buster. I had a problem where the blue screen would appear. I could continue going on my comnputer, but Internet wouldn't work. Then I downloaded new reference files for Ad-Aware, and it got rid of it.

BTW, there's something wrong with my computer Ad-Aware can't get rid of. My start page is a file saying I have Spyware, and no matter what I try, it won't get rid of the file. Any help with it? (I found a way around it so I don't have to see it.)

^Ooohh... that's a particularly nasty brand. Just try Spybot S&D, is all I can say. Also, McAfee Antivirus works well against spyware too.

I think there's a reason it knows you have spyware...

It was merely a file that never went away. Besides, this computer isn't the highest quality. But, thanks for the tip, I downloaded Teatime, which allowed it to deny the change back to that file. Heh, I have VGF Forums as my start page.

Of course, now the problem is that occasionally the thing pops up saying it's trying to change the registy to pop up. I think if I check the Remember my Decision thing, it will stop it for good.

Red face

Well, I'll definitely try those tips. Thanks^^.

Update --

I downloaded a new program for Trojans called The Claner. And it did work wonders. I worked my Zonealarm all night and blocked every damn program who's name gave me an inch of suspiscion. Ran every Virus cleaning program again. They found nothing. I quarantined and deleted all infected files The Claner could not find.

Now I only have a single problem left.

I KEEP getting these pop-ups from AVG that inform me certain files have been detected as infected. They are listed in a folder I have never heard of, called C:\System Volume Information. I cannot access this file. I may be wrong, but it may have something to do with these Windows Error messages involving 'The Wrong Volume is inserted into the drive for THE SIMS unleashed, even when there is neither a SIMS CD or ANYTHING in any drive.

Again about the unknown popups -- the files listed I cannot find, nor can AVG or any other program when scanning.

WTF?

Errrrrr... sounds like somethings WRONG with your computer.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Actually maybe it's AVG that's the problem. I find it a good idea to never trust free programs, as a rule of thumb.

I've always used a combination of BHO Demon and Spybot: Search & Destroy, and I've had mucho success with them. You can also get a small program called Toolbar Cop which will allow you to remove various programs associated with your internet browser.

Yes, I would suggest trying a different AV. I tried AVG a while back and it did the same thing to me, it kept popping up saying Virus detected and when I ran a full system scan, it found nothing.

Also, I wouldn't trust any spyware programs solely as your virus scanner, Spybot and Ad-aware don't even find all the spyware on my computer, let alone viruses.

And has anyone ever heard about Hijack this? Its a free program that you download and run and it takes information about your running processes, registry keys, installed browser toolbars etc. Then you go and post your Hijack this log on a forum with people who really know what they're talking about and they'll see if they can help you. It's not just for browser Hijacking, it can fix many trojans too. It worked for me. You can download it here:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

And you can post your log here, theres lots of other forums you can post it on, I just use this one. If you can't find one just use google and search for hijack this foum or something:
http://forums.net-integration.net/in...5&showforum=32

I'm not exactly sure if this would help in your case, but for people who are having trojan/spyware/browser hijacking problems that they can't fix should give it a try.
