Yea so I was thinking about setting up my own site, I'm not really sure what I'd put on it yet but I also wanted to set up another one for my band.

Anyway I've chosen Freewebs as my base of operations for the moment but I wanted to ask around before I pay any money.

So, if you have a domain name,
Who is hosting it for you?
How much are you paying?

If anyone else has anything to say on the subject then go ahead, I'm all ears.

Freewebs is a crappy host. If you want a free one, try out 100webspace , which is what I use. You then buy the domain at a website like register.com, and then in your 100webspace control panel, it will easily show how to link it to your website. Register sells .com domains for around 25 dollars a year I believe. Your host doesn't have to be where you get your domain, unless you have a really crappy host. (I'm pretty sure freewebs does that) The price of hosting is free, and it's better than freewebs pay service, except for the lack of a domain included

I use Freewebs. You can see my site through my profile. I only have 1 bone to pick with Freewebs, lately, a lot of times I have tried to log on, it has been down.

Freewebs is certainly better than a host like geocities or tripod, but there are better services out there.

http://free.prohosting.com/

Lots of people complain about them, but they've hosted my forums (dead ones albeit) for about a half a year now, with no downtime whatsoever... of course, 50 megs isn't a LOT, but it's free... and if you want more, http://www.prohosting.com/ looks good enough. Never tried it, but I can't imagine it would be bad.

I have one domain, www.kevinswatch.com that I get from www.namezero.com. The first year was free, but now they charge 20 bucks a year. All it provides is the domain name - you need to have a server somewhere else.-jay

http://www.free-webhosts.com/webhosting-01.php

There's a list of the best free webhosts on the net. I'd suggest picking one from that list.

Okay, I found a site on that list of Link2000's, www.freesuperhost.com. It truly is a super host... although you won't understand what I'm saying, it's got a bunch of plans with varying space and BW. The free one has everything you need, too -- CGI, PHP (gasp), FTP, .htaccess, Frontpage, SSL, SQL databes, everything. It seemed too good to be true, and I'm amazed it's not.

That's my host actually. They operate under a bunch of different names for whatever reason. Their main name is 100webhost.com though.

I hear talk you you having another domain name too... is there any truth to these allegations? If so, did you register the name through VGF or through something else?
