Xbox is having a pathetic showing in Japan, GC owns Xbox in Japan, unless something happens that will alter things now and in the future. All M$ can do is keep lowering the price and hope that one game which will propel itself to overtake GC. Sega doesn't help, their hated in Japan.[/QB]</font>
Yeah, it is sad. I really think that Sega's decision to release Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast games on XBox is stupid. They're not going to sell. Period. They'd probably sell in compilations on PS2 or Gamecube. -Hobbes Gunslinger ![]() "C'mon, Dance for me"-Gilder | |

| Guest | Sony owns the world Sega would be smart to port it games, its the next best thing Now if someone tells Sega, its also smart to make games for GC and not jsut for kids. Sega has a better reputation in Japan, hhhmm you're right, sales for Sega games in Japan have been stellar the past few years , heck they should have just kept rolling big budgetted games for Japanese consumers and watch as the sales keep up. woohoo[ May 13, 2002, 03:19 PM: Message edited by: JM: 'GO Spurs GO' ] |

| Guest | Who else is there? Sega may have only had a couple platinum games on the Saturn in Japan, but the total installed base here was 1.4 million. [ May 13, 2002, 05:03 PM: Message edited by: Shane - The Neglected American ] |

| Guest | Particularly everyone, there are a still a couple of million that refuses to turn to the dark side I might add. And its Dreamcast installed base was what? 5 million? Yes, I never understood that line but I guess I do now, "less is better" |

| Guest | Most of Nintendo's fans have never even heard of the dark side. 5 million seems a bit generous to me. I'm thinking 3. Anyway, the reason why Sega did better here than Japan for all those (half) years was because Saturn had been dead here since the PSX launch. People in Japan hadn't given up on Saturn that easily. |

| Guest | There were 5 million DC gamers last time I checked. Well if that's the truth, then that is just sad for Sega, they shouldn't have even bothered making DC for Japan, if ppl were still loving their Saturns like that, they could have saved themselves a couple of million and use it instead for their US and EU market, at the same time making side money on their Saturn front. |

| Guest | Gamers or shipments? Granted, either way, it's irrelevant because the bottom line is that it isn't worth talking about. They weren't going into it thinking they were going to fail. Besides, considering that the 32X was released after the Saturn in Japan, what do you expect? These guys are yokels when it comes to hardware. | Guest | Sure its not relevant but it is because you said Sega has a better reputation in japan than here, I merely presented that fact to back my claims or what i think it is. True, can't argue that one. Sega is the king of botched hardware save for Genesis and Dreamcast. |

| Guest | My point is that regardless of what the low single digit number is, it's too small to mention. Dreamcast is a prime example of botched hardware, with its quick death and installed base of around the level of the Saturn. Genesis is the only system they didn't botch. |

| Guest | Since when did millions became small? And don't start comparing it in general becasue we are just referring to Sega in general and what their fanbase reach is. Japan just doesn't like Sega, SOny is worshipped. I meant Dreamcast hardware was really the best system Sega did since Genesis. It had everything going for it 'cept mass belief and backed money. FOr what its worth, it still can be considered a success relative to any success, Sega just didn't ahve enough money to move and make. |
