| Guest | I have read from some sites that on E3, Sega will announce that it will drop Xbox once its games that are in production have been done and released. Thus focus its resources on both PS2 and GC, after then, its Sega Xbox games will be ported to both machines with once again the empshasis on demographics-age trends for both system. To me, seems strange why Sega would do this, but looking at it, its logical in a way. Since Xbox is lagging behind in Japan and Eu, plus the fact that PS2 has the same audience that Xbox has but 7 times bigger, so it may be more profitable to downsize its production by ditching one system and going with two system that is sure to have all the age market covered. However, it may not be in Sega's interest to cut its ties with MS and Xbox like that, streaming money will be hard to resist If all these are true, it will be interesting to see how M$ will react, methinks they will do everything to keep Sega, cause Xbox will look bad in the industry and might start a domino effect amongts 3rd parties. So what do you ppl think, truth or BS? Truth shall be revealed in E3, show is getting better every day even if it hasn't started yet [ May 09, 2002, 04:49 PM: Message edited by: Jedi Knight JM ] |

| Guest | As I understand it, this rumor originated on the Fatbabies message board (may have been elsewhere and that's just the first place I'd seen sourced). I'm going to wait until they lose some weight. As has been said before, the EU situation has been overdone. Since launch, they've been about even with PS2. Japan's another story, but I think everyone knew that would take a while to get going (as it is, they already hold the record for foreign consumer electronics products launches). Sega at this time is supporting Microsoft the most. How they go from most to none is beyond me. Furthermore, how do you beat EA when EA's supporting everything? Footshooting. |

True, that I agree, good answer there but EA have gone unnoticed and quiet, they are a mere footnote to Sega now hehehe. [ May 09, 2002, 05:35 PM: Message edited by: Jedi Knight JM ]

| Guest | Nintendo fans aren't worried about Rare. They got Retro. Consumer electronics products isn't just limited to games. There are companies like IBM involved, too. I wouldn't bother mentioning it if it were just teeny companies like Atari and 3DO. If you wanna be #1, you gotta beat #1. That's EA. |

| Guest | Isn't Retro what it wasn't hyped up to be? But Nintendo fans sure are funny sometimes, days after all those RARE talks, they declare that RARE isn't really good and overrated developer. Tells RARE, go leave we don't need you." Says bye bye to all those great games that built N64. My bad, I was just strictly concerned with games. That's Sega's role now, and they would know better how to use the ESPN product, its all set for an even bigger war. EA has Fox, Sega has ESPN. |

| Guest | It's BS like the Rare rumor. XBox is in last place in the console wars, but they've got money. That's good enough for Sega to keep developing those games. XBox doesn't show signs of revival in Japan. They're even with PS2 (after pathetic sales) in EU but that's not surprising. It's like a second XBox launch for the EU. Granted depressing overseas sales might not matter since Sega's strongest territory is probably America. Retro's probably better than the bulk of developers. | Guest | Sorry for going off topic, but I just can't understand why so many good games are ignored, by any means JSRF and GV are both awesome games yet ignored and sales really dont' reflect it value but then again if an awesome game like ICO also bombs worse yet on a big userbase, I find it hard to understand sometimes what the mass of gamers really are? Fickle(?), stupid(?), ignorant(?) or just plain one track minded controlled by I don't know who their leader is. Anyways, enough of my rant, I guess you guys are right, really is a stupid move for Sega to just dump Xbox like that. Not when the Box is showing signs of life and with the rumor price cut, sales could pick up. |

| Guest | It's called sarcasm. Although the immediate reaction was "We bought Retro... Rare's next." Um, yeah. Quality doesn't make Sega #1. They gotta topple EA, repeatedly, to get to that position. Sega's overextending themselves on the Xbox like they did on the Dreamcast. Hehe, still amused by this last place stuff. Anyone counting Xbox out of Japan already is an idiot. My understanding is they're tied with PS2 in Europe since launch, not since the price drop. Although either way people did overdramatize the situation there. Retro's probably better than Titus. |

| Guest | With the direction the market has gone in the past generation, that sounds about right JM. Even the hardcore XBox fanboys have counted it out in Japan. Quote:

| Guest | It's gonna get beat by Sony in Japan. That's a given. But being behind Nintendo isn't settled. Not that Nintendo's gonna be huge or anything. Quote:

| Guest | They're literally the new DC of Japan. I didn't write that quote actually. The first one directly states those are the stats only for a week. The second one isn't as clear (it could mean either) even if it implies something different. So I'm thinking the first one is right assuming both are truthful. You don't drop the prices that much unless sales are far below what you've expected. Many others called the performance pathetic though. |

| Guest | I know you didn't write it. I questioned it the first time you posted it. The first one came directly from the second one. You can drop the prices that much if doing so still makes your system tied for the most expensive on the market. |

Xbox is having a pathetic showing in Japan, GC owns Xbox in Japan, unless something happens that will alter things now and in the future. All M$ can do is keep lowering the price and hope that one game which will propel itself to overtake GC. Sega doesn't help, their hated in Japan.
