Lets use Dreamcast as the yardstick, so how does XBox and GC fare in comparison for its first few months out? Its games? Support? and overall playability of the system

XBox:Wow, I have Halo, and it captivated me for two months, and now I'm bored. (I don't have one, so this isn't accurate.)

GC:I love waiting 3 months for my next game, wait 6 months, wait, 9 months, current standings.

DC:Released two years ago, and I'm still playing it.

DC is still the best system around.

DC is the most worth the money. I haven't seen much from either system yet.

Haha, good one, I like the wait time/ downtime/ game drought for GC. Couldn't have said it better myself. Tho there are some games worthy of one's attention, there just isn't enough for now altho' I don't have a GC( I do have one per se), looking at the games currently out, games I want can be counted less than thy fingers.

Xbox, has more quantity game-wise and its diverse selection has got me interested. All the while I really thought Xbox would be my next purchase, but steep price is preventing me, perhaps once the price drop comes.

Hehe, my DC I still play it around every now and then, its really great when you have a couple of ppl over. And I still have some games left unfinished.

hehehehehehehe, nobody likes Dreamcast, funniest line I've heard all day. And it came from the one who likes, oh loves playing games so much.

If all you have is a GameCube, then there's been a decent lineup of games lately. If you've got at least a PS2 also though, then you've probably already played most of it.

Halo was awesome and Max Payne isn't bad, but other than that my Xbox has been collecting dust along with my 'Cube.

That explains the stellar sales. I do like playing games. Nothing you'd recognize because they're, um, what's that word... good.

GameCube: Nonexistant. I haven't touched GameCube since January (infact, I don't know where it is) and I probably won't be playing it till September when Star Fox comes out or whenever Mario hits.

XBOX: I've found that many of the XBOX exclusives have been very disappointing so far. Azurik, Nightcaster, Oddworld, New Legends and a hand full of others have just been let downs. The Sega games are nothing to rave about either. XBOX has a lot of variety but it has too many no name unexperienced PC devs who are just trying something but are, unfortunately, missing the mark sorely. Microsoft has a lot of work to do if it really wants to capture this mass market. Box needs more Halos and DOA3s. The games that are releasing now aren't going to do the trick.

PS2: Still the best system. It puts a whooping on both GameCube and XBOX. I'm still playing GTA3 and DMC up to now. And also playing VF4 to death. PS2 is the best all around system and it will continue to be the best system until atleast the end of next year.

Dreamcast: The hardcore gamers system. Since I finished Shenmue II my dreamcast has been taking a nap. Fortunately, I bought a new receiver and will get some new speakers soon and I am dying ti hear what Shenmue and Soul Calibur sounds like 5.1 sound. I can bet it'll be a blast.

I will never sell my DC. I have 2 and will get a 3rd. It's a clasiic system and it should always be cherished.

I've been mostly playing SNES lately. I just finished Donkey Kong Country 2 again.

I agree PS2 has the best overall lineup. After that DC simply because it has worthwile exclusives. GC and XBox have been dry since Christmas.

Yeah, I've been playing my PS2 more than anything else...for original PSX games.

Just beat the original MGS tonight.

^What did you think of MGS? I thought that MGS 2 didn't live up to MGS standards, but still good nonetheless, but experience wasn't as good as the first one.

Did you guys ever feel that "maybe I should have waited instead of falling for the hype?"

And what would be those "good" games, the Bouncer, Superman 64, and the very modern PONG.

Its not about sales or the popularity, its about the quality that came with it. Majority of DC owners enjoyed their DCs, there were a lot of triple A games, and good amount of good games to be played. Unfortunately for you, those games weren't good enough for lame gamers and for us "real" gamers we decided which was good, we saw it and we knew it, how come your planet never did ?

I've been using the SNES emus on my DC lately, great fun going back to playing the classics. Been playing Ogre Battle.

PS2 really has lot going for it, it has the most choices and diverse lineup of games. Ppl has gotten over its jagginess, recent games has quality written over it. I just love playing ICO and GTA3, latter is just amazing and replability never ends until you decide it ends.

At first I felt terribly limited since MGS lets you do less "stuff" than MGS2 does, but once I got used to that (and the mediocre graphics) I actually found MGS to be the better overall experience. The characters were more interesting, the storyline was much better (less non-sensical blabber but still fairly deep), and the ending was definitely better.

If I would've played MGS first, I certainly wouldn't have given MGS2 a 9.8/10. Probably something in the low 9s instead. I still plan on replaying MGS2 though, since now I'll get more of the little details.

That's all that new fangled crap that DC fans fall for.

Sales impact quality. A couple developers, some good games, but more of a bathroom magazine rack than a library.

No planet, save for Planet Dreamcast, ever liked it.

I only played Ogre Battle for like 2 minutes, but I'm pretty sure it sucked.

Sales obviously did not affect Dreamcast's quality.

Not knowing Ogre Battle and saying it probably sucks just shows how you think you know what a good game is. What do you recommend for me to play, O great Shane, I'm dying to hear what good games you have in mind.

I second what Pzirm said.

Thus explaining all the developers who focused a lot of effort on the system, like Sega, Capcom, and, um, um, um...

I didn't say it definitely sucks. I'm just saying I couldn't get into it, mostly because if you want a real war sim, see Koei, the originators and masters of the genre.

Well I already owned both MG1 & 2 (on NES) when I bought MGS2, so I was already a big Snake fan. It didn't ruin it for me, but it took a while to adjust to.

Yeah lol, that was exactly my reaction too. Then I thought about what happened in MGS2...and it all made sense...

^ Cool. Wonder if MGS series has really ended.

A lot of companies did support the system for a while, but the timing of the pirated games could have come a worse time(Sega needed to generate money, 3rd parties wanted revenues and DC was just in the middle of the road) I felt that really spelled doom for the system.
But anyways, quality was never away from DC, never was and never will. Games will prove its point to everyone but to lame gamers.

I don't want a real war sim, already have enough of that in the real world, we already are in a midst of war. So anything to get away from the reality is good. Ogre Battle was never about real war games, it does have some war elements to it, to a certain extent but I'm after the story and character/team developments which took most of my time.

Pirated games shmirated games. What are you, a Nintendo employee?

Time will prove its point if it didn't already.

Um, second century China shares something in common with today? Not that I meant real as in real but as in good.
