For real? Damn, this game could have really used being released earlier, hope FFIX doesn't kill PSO with its hype yet. The good thing is, it doesn't have any competition on the GC side, bad thing maybe interest were lost along the way? Thanks alot Nintendo, maybe ST will get fed up soon.

anyways, I found an article, so Nintendo does believe in online gaming and the way they say it, seems reluctant at that.

Quote:
Nintendo executives confirmed to Reuters that the company will offer online gaming on GameCube this Fall. Nintendo will offer dial-up and broadband adapters for GCN at an MSRP of $34.95. The first online title will be - drumroll please - Phantasy Star Online. Long rumored to be in release limbo pending Nintendo's online plans, PSO will see the light of day this Fall on GCN. The company's online plans will not be highly marketed or touted. Instead the online feature will be an extention of gameplay. Nintendo will not charge extra online fees or collect revenue from online games.
"Nintendo's position is that online is a feature to extend the console and the gameplay, but in and of itself online does not make a game," Jim Merrick, a technical director for Nintendo's online efforts said.

This is certainly great news for GameCube fans, and we'll definitely see hear more concrete information regarding Nintendo online starting next week.

Anyone knows what happened to the PSO versions of Xbox, PC and PS2?

Xbox and PC versions are still in the works as far as I know. Hadn't heard about the PS2 version.

The other PSO's have been halted until PSOcube is finished and running. Sega said that Gamecube is their main system for PSO for now.

That's a sad statement if you consider Nintendo's online approach. Unless Sega simply thinks they won't have any games to compete with.

Not as many anyway, but probably not zero games to compete with (perhaps when it first launches).

Haven't heard of any RPG online games for GC yet, so PSO may take that to its advantage.

The PS2 version as I recall was said to be new or a modified version of DC PSO which was able to connect to DC PSO gamers, after that never heard of the PS2 version again.

I hope Sega would be the first to connect all 4 platforms(PC vs PS2 vs XBOX vs GC) but then I imagine the amount of cheaters that would be spawned as ell. Yikes!

SSBM online is the Nintendo game I want to most see online. PSO and other third-party games don't really doesn't interest me.

Trust me Lenny, once you play PSO online, you will get addicted and will want more. I felt the exact same thing when I first heard PSO, I said to myself I was only concerned with the real sequel, but once I got into the hype and played the game online, I wanted more...

As for other online games, I'm interested on a CAPCOM vs SNK online game.
