First, story. A bit bland, really, but nice. A new character named Blaze the Cat has, in an expected turn of fate, landed in Sonic's world. With her came the seven Sol Emeralds, and it is her job to retrieve them. Meanwhile, Sonic has encountered a new foe, Eggman Nega (...). Okay, I don't remember a lot, but a bit touching to see Blaze being friends with Cream and Cheese. Game play is classic. Really, as some of you may know, this game is a revival of the old Sonic gameplay. It's all about speed. The new feature is the Stress bar - Pressing the Y button will cause Sonic or Blaze to gain a nice burst of speed and, as long as that's held, grants invincibility. However, the bar must not be empty. This is achieved by reaching Check points, beating enemies, and performing tricks with the B button. This means that the Spin dash is only useful for boss battles. Sound wise, pretty nifty. It was a bold step by Sega to use Hip Hop-type music or whatever the bloody hell it is, but it works. Even the Super Sonic stage had fitting music. Graphic wise, this game surprised me - 3D graphics in a 2D platform game, otherwise known as 2.5D. Again, nifty. Oh, yes, before I forget, the Bonus Stage = WIN. Overall, it was nice to finally complete this game, and I'm sure I still won't stop playing. My rating : 8.7/10. Next review shall be Shadow the Hedgehog. |
