Shining Force 2, if you ask me, more than makes up for it. There are much better balance issues, and you can get a few promotions that branch out but only if you have items. While it's still a fair deal easier than Fire Emblem, I found that it was far more user-friendly than the first one. Even in the remake which helped fix some balancing issues, I still had to resort to using a trick called "Egress Abuse" in order to not get slaughtered in the later chapters. When you cast Egress, you even retain experience gained during the battle, and of course Shining Force if you ask me is like half as long as Shining Force 2 is. I rarely actually had to resort to using Egress Abuse, mostly to win that damn Chess battle. (I managed to get all my units promoted and level 2-6 before I won that) I say you should pick this one on the virtual console. Shining Force 1 on the Genesis is on the virtual console and that one is the version in which the centaurs just bulldozed everything and didn't give you the utility of Narsha. |

Shining Force didn't have a plot, but the remake actually somehow made the (lack of) plot worse. I am still working on Shining Force II, but I really loved Shining Force. It's one of my favorite games of all time. I hope SFII tops it, that would just be amazing. |
