If I get the answers from Kyle, I should be able to put the mailbag up.

That brings me to another thing:

Jay, you keep on saying this. However, you should realize that A) I'm a fair person B) I don't like the idea of having the cumbersome task of always removing people from my mailbag template (in which I usually only have to cut and paste the answers), just because people didn't meet the deadline.

Jay, I should also point out that I get most responces within days of sending question. The ones I usually have to wait for are Kyle, EAM (who I'm just going to probably let go), and.....you.

Hey, I don't blame you, but I'm just saying, it gets silly to even bother having a mailbag if we only put them up once every two months.

Personally, my opinion is that it's time for a change.

And giving people two weeks would be PLENTY fair.

It doesn't take more than an hour to answer them.

It can't be that hard to modify the template slightly to allow for absent mailbaggers.

If you need help, let me know. Maybe I can come up with a better idea for the mailbag layout so it's not as hard to change.

I'm just saying the current system is stupid. It needs to change. Of course, that is 100% just my opinion.

Look at a good site that does mailbags reasonably, like rpgamer.com. They get mailbags up pretty much daily.

TMK is no better than us at getting mailbags done, so this could be one area we could really shine over them.

And yes, I know that I'm usually one of the people you have to wait for. And I'm telling you that I would have no problems with you putting up a mailbag after two weeks without me.

This isn't a criticism against you, Sean. It's against the system. Personally, I think we could do better.-jay

So, you think I should just end it? Because, there hasn't been anything close to a monthy (or even regular) mailbag for over 3 years.

You of all people should know how hard it can be to find time these days.

Of course it's not hard. It's inconvient and time consuming (and time is something I don't have a lot of).

If it was possible for everyone to telephone the answer without enormous long-distance bills, I'd go for that.

I looked and noticed it's pretty much done by one guy, as opposed to seven.

A) I have never really cared about competing with TMK. They are a different kind of site. B) Even though they have lagged in the last year or so, they were very good with the mailbags before then.

I considered it a big accomplishment when you and Kyle started answering for the mailbag, since well...you created SMBHQ. I definitely would NOT like to put up a mailbag without, at least, you two.

The only way we can do better is fire all but a few reponders and have a more condensed mailbag.

Sorry, but I disagree with most of your points.

No, I didn't say that. I said we can do it better. I think having a mailbag is great. I still think it's a lot of fun, or else I wouldn't keep doing it. But right now, it's just terrible. I'm trying to offer constructive criticism, trying to make it better. Work with me here.

Quote:

I realize it would be more inconvenient, I'm just saying it would be better. And it can't be *that* much work. I don't believe it. The pros would outweigh the cons. If you don't have time, find someone else to do it or to help. People like CSM seem like they would love to help. And I just offered to help look at the code to find ways to make it easier.

Quote:

No, but making the mailbag better should be easily possible.

Quote:

I know that. I was just using that as a example of what I think is a great mailbag which updates often.

Quote:

Again, I know, I was just using another example.

And just because we were never consistant with the mailbags in the past is no excuse for us to continue to only make them once every 2 months.

Quote:

Yes, but I'm telling you this: Having 12-24 mailbags a year, 6 of them answered everyone (including me and Kyle) is a LOT better then just 6 mailbags a year answered by everyone.

Quote:
The only way we can do better is fire all but a few reponders and have a more condensed mailbag.
That wouldn't help anything. We'd still be waiting months for some people (like me and Kyle).

Like I said, I'm just trying to offer criticism because I think the mailbag could (and should) be better. If you don't want to take my criticism, that's fine, since like you said, I'm not one to judge, since I hardly have time to update myself. I completely understand that you have other things to worry about in your life.-jay

I just wrote a long response, but I accidently pressed a button and erased it all.

Let me summarize by saying that, I looked in the archives and, with the current "round table" system, I have had my best year with 8 editions in 2005. I blame the slow 2006 to both the procrastination of Jay, Kyle, and EAM (EAM being the only one not to really give a reason). I am also blaming the HUGE decrease in the quality of the questions I recieved and the fact that it's REALLY HARD to find 10 good question for each edition.

Now by playing judge, I shall make a deliberation:
I hereby decree that EAM will no longer be a mailbag responder. I also declare that MetalMan be reinstated to take up the slack.

Kyle and Jay will now be declared part-time responders and will answer questions at their own pace.

As for the Mailbag responder search. It will continue as scheduled, and at least one new full-time responder will be chosen as a result.

Case dismissed.

Keep me in mind but I'm not going to be the annoying kid to always bug you and ask if I could be a responder.

You know how to contact me.

PS - Sorry to not drop the case, heh.

Quick update: I'm going to use that two week deadline thing as a formality (even though it's the same people I have to wait for) and I am going to give EAM a couple more chances before dropping him.

Hmm...

I do not think EAM was too happy to hear he was being dropped. In fact he had no previous knowledge you were dropping him. Don't you think you should consult him about it?
