Yeah, I started noticing that the main page looked a little bland.

I also noticed that pretty much every other site I visit uses a sidebar, so why shouldn't SMBHQ?

Then in creating the sidebar, I figured that I should create some more specific categories than simply "Mario Eras," "General Sections," and "Speciality Sections."

EDIT: For the record, I just talked to Kyle and he loves it.

This will only bring SMBHQ that much closer to being in the Top 10 websites of all time.

Although that's like, maybe 30 years away.

The sidebar from 3 years ago beats this one into the ground.

Anyway, I think it's an improvement. Still a little dull and too much random white space. But definitely an improvement.

Heh, you should know by now. I'm the SMBHQ Cynic.

Although it does beat the previous way it was, which crashed my browser and used too much javascript. Just that it's... rather basic.

I like it now - the site is beginning to look more organized.

It would look better if the layout was in the center of the page.

Or now that you mention it, perhaps the sidebar could be split into two columns surrounding the update space.

^ Its called a sidebar, but a two-sidebar.

90% of the sides I visit use a single navigation sidebar.

Examples:
TMK
NES World
Metroid Database
World of Warcraft official website (threw that in as a joke)

Now, most of those sides DO have a second sidebar for news and stuff. However, I don't want SMBHQ to become too cramped. It had the two-sidebar format before and I grew not to like it (that's why I changed it last year)

I generally vary between the types. Natively, though, I use a single sidebar to the top or side of the page. (Oftentimes, hovering at the top of the page part you're seeing, even.)
