Media Molecule Says No Little Big Planet Sequel Coming

Media Molecule Says No Little Big Planet Sequel Coming

Quote:
Media Molecule has no plans for a sequel to Little Big Planet, and even thinks that such a move would contradict their goal for the game. In an interview with Critical Gamer, level designer Danny Leaver said the company would "never want to do that. That'd be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think." Producer Martin Lynagh added, "I think what you've seen so far from Little Big Planet, that's the way it's going to continue."

The future of the game still looks like it will be going strong for the Sackboy faithful, with water levels on the way and the PSP port due in a couple of weeks. For a game that's all about building, the developers seem content to keep it that way and add to what they already have. A successor may come eventually, but for the immediate future it looks like the first LBP will be the only one.

Well, it's not like they could do anything to improve the formula with anything that couldn't just be added on through DLC :/

Not-****ty controls and physics would be a good start. Controlling LBP feels like they really were going for the "you're controlling an inanimate sackdoll" thing, quite faithfully.

Really? I never found any issues with the controls or a physics to be honest.

Little Big Planet 2 Accidentally Confirmed

Quote:
Little Big Planet 2 is confirmed as being in development, according to print magazine Game Informer.

In an announcment describing its upcoming June issue, the magazine promises (among other things) a "huge feature article" on Little Big Planet 2, the sequel to Media Molecule's 2008 customizable platformer for the PlayStation 3.

While long assumed that a sequel was in the works, this is the first official confirmation we've seen. We'll have more on this as it develops.

Little Big Planet 2 Gameplay Detailed

Quote:
Little Big Planet 2 will feature a diverse level creator that goes far beyond that in the original game, according to a report.

As we noted earlier today, the latest issue of Game Informer provides the first details on Media Molecule's sequel. Hours ago, a user on the NeoGAF Forums posted information allegedly from the magazine's feature story.

According to the post, Little Big Planet 2's brand new level editor is "not just a tool to create platform games," but instead "encourages the player to create game types." Possibilities allegedly include shooters, racing games, puzzle games, Space Invaders clones, and RPGs. The post even claims that a Media Molecule employee "has created a fully-functioning Command & Conquer clone" using the engine.

The deep customization engine is alleged to allow a customizable HUD, fully customizable controls, recordable sound effects, and even control over the character's jumping physics.

1UP was unable to secure a copy of the magazine at press time, but we will have more information on the game soon.

Jumping physics controls would fix the first game, for the most part.

Nice job looking like hypocrites, there.

Dropping in here to note what an excellent irony this thread is--how it went from "No sequel coming" to "Sequel rated A-". XP

I'm curious as to how much you can mess with the physics. If you can make it control better, it might be worth it.

lolololololol

It's called timing your jumps, AI. Not every game needs the character to jump 500 feet in the air and allow you perfect control over where you land.

Still, I doubt it'll be a good enough change that you can apply to every stage. The physics are probably the same given the previous's popularity.

It's called timing my digital fists into your e-face, Tazy.

FYI, the PSP version is barely customizable. Kinda... sucks.

^^It's not that I can't play the original game. It's that I find its rather humble approach to platforming to be tremendously boring.
