I notice that Square continually fiddles with Chrono Trigger, often releasing something in a timely manner. But why never a game? I find it strange that they even have any interest in the series outside of games, as when with most "dead" franchises they are usually completely forgotten. Any thoughts? And is anyone picking these figurines up? |

So why can't we even get Chrono Cross on the damn PSN yet? It also leads me to believe a sequel may be released for PS if it comes out. |

Saying it's a PS franchise leaves the reader with the implication that it's only released on that system series. If you wanted to be accurate, it's a Square franchise and it goes to the highest bidder. If there isn't a highest bidder, they go multi-platform. That's being anal, but you're bound to run into people everywhere on the net that are selective about their wording. |

That cultural technology is lost, like how NASA forgot how to build rockets to go to the moon. Man, this stuff is deep. I've been thinking for the past fifteen minutes, and I can't put into words why they can't. I think it's a combination of factors:

Wrong time and place for it to happen, really. Biggest thing IMO is devs seem to imagine they're pulling bigger numbers than the original audience brought. They're sincerely not, outside of multi-platform releases, so why not cater to a more clever audience? But the story density problem is there, more than anything. The simple stories have been told, so devs are going the safe route and building complexities that can't be mistaken for one another but fail to reach the same scope. A sequel to Chrono Trigger isn't possible in the same universe. They should create an alternate version of the same game if they want to tap into a similar feeling, but they would probably keep all the wrong elements, anyway. |

Square admits inability to create towns on 360/PS3 so I honestly think the Wii should be home to any home-console remakes like CT/CC and FF7. |

Not that it'll happen. But still. |

What sort of problems was Squeenix having with the 360 and PS3 that the Wii doesn't have? I think the problem stems with the lack of creative vision breaking through into a 100+ member team. Once you have to create a Final Fantasy-sized game on a current generation console, you need teams that large. It's just so very hard to co-ordinate that team with one unifying vision. |

In the sense that it could take even hundreds years of man-hours to complete a full-scale representation of a city, I could see that as representing a competitive problem. The 360 and PS3 already represent that problem, as is, with the cost of the production being driven through the roof by demand for high-quality art and complex software. |

I think this ties in with the "cater to idiots" reason; idiots will not purchase a game that does not use their console to the extreme. Their marketing people have done focus groups or whatever. It's either that, or Squeenix developers shouldn't be given too much power. The most acclaimed FF games are FF6 (still on a cartridge) and FF7 (the first-gen CD). "Art through adversity" maybe? |
