World Cup kicks off tomorrow and Michael Ballack is out of the Costa Rica game. Surely that wouldn't make a difference against Costa bloomin Rica? Djibril Cisse has broke his leg in France's 3-1 victory against China and misses the entire tournament. Wayne Rooney will play in the World Cup pending an official confirmation by the FA. |

I can still catch the last bit of Poland - Ecuador. But, I'd rather work Friday night than Saturday. I think Germany will win, but Ballack is of course a big loss. It's very unfortunate for the French as well to lose Cisse. I heard that he was injured, but I didn't know it was that severe. |

I did catch a summary, so I have seen all the goals. Some were great. I got home and turned on the tv just in time to see Ecuador score the 2-0 against Poland. The last part of the match was pretty exciting with two shots from Poland on the post. Tomorrow there will be three good matches England - Paraguay (who I think are underrated), Trinidad & Tobago (with a Dutch coach) - Sweden, and the match I'm most excited about, because they're from the same group as the Netherlands: Argentina - Ivory Coast. I will be watching all three matches. |

Klose and Wanchope (even though the 2nd goal was offsides) kick ass, I think Costa Rica could grab the 2nd spot if they get a defensive act together. Poland didn't look like a WC team at all, uninspired play, horrible from the corner kicks. Props to Ecuador, played absolutely shut down D and with great intensity. |

Not because they've got such a good team, but because they've got a good draw and the home advantage. |

They were lucky they were facing Costa Rica. Anyone better such as Czechoslovakia would have exploited those holes. Germans got lucky. Ecuador on the other hand could be a dark horse in that group judging by the way they played. England playing today, can't wait. I'd also enjoy watching the Argys play the Cote D'Ivoire, an intriguing match that could throw us an upset. |

Paraguay were disspointing in the first half, but England were in the 2nd. Throughout the 2nd half the 1-1 looked closer than the 2-0. Still, with this victory they're virtually already in the next round. Winning against Trinidad & Tobago shouldn't be a problem, and it looks like the last match against Sweden will be for the 1st place in the group. |

Sweden looked very poor especially in the scoring department. They never even really got close. |

It was a pretty entertaining game, and it gave me some hope for the Dutch team when I saw them play. Ivory Coast is definitely beatable, because they don't play very defensive and while Argentina is good at defending a lead, they don't last for an entire half. I think the Netherlands should be able to win from Ivory Coast at least. And if they can win tomorrow that would be a big step towards the knock-out stage. I do think they will have difficulties tomorrow against Serbia & Montenegro, who play very defensive, which makes sense because they're defense is very good. They only suffered one goal in the qualifying stage. |

Argentina completely underwhelmed me, and the Ivory Coast squad woke up as soon as they scored. If Argentina were playing a more experienced squad, they would have faced a tie. I honestly thing the Ivory Coast could squeak a win out of the tourny. Hell, they scored a goal and had a top flight squad playing on its heels in the opener. Not bad for a rookie squad. |

. Are you sure you watched? Despite their 2000:1 odds, give a little credit to Hislop, the 34 year old played the match of his life in one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history, he was denying Zlatan and the rest of the Swedes left and right. I was absolutely stunned and semi-pissed since I was rooting for the Blue and Yellow. Saying they weren't even close is completely asinine. Sweden had very nice buildups and play development, just lacking that finishing touch but I'm sure it will come, especially considering how horrible England and Paraguay looked. 2 shots on goal in 90 minutes for Paraguay. | |

And with attackers like Zlatan, Ljungberg and Larsson, it's very poor that their best efforts were stopped by the keeper. It's not like they had bad luck and hit the post or something. And to be honest there weren't that many shot that the keeper stopped, most of them went wide. You shouldn't always judge a game on the scores, but no score against a football dwarf which played with 10 players for 45 minutes can only be classified as poor in my book. I was rooting for a draw, because that was most convenient for the Dutch team. If they had scored the 2-1 earlier I think they could've pulled it off. |

After that they didn't really get any good chances, and van der Sar had a few good saves. Especially in the 2nd half I was getting worried that they might score the 1-1, but fortunately they didn't. I'm typing this in the halftime of Mexico - Iran, where the score is 1-1. Pretty entertaining match so far. |

Quite late goals, surprised they got 2 in to be honest, I thought it was gonna stay 1-1. I liked Iran's attitude, they had a lot of pluck in their midfield passing, very quick but they just tired towards the end cos of the heat, allowing Mexico in to score twice. I was sad not to catch the Holland game. I wanted to get a taster of how well they would do. I only caught ten minutes of it in a pub as I was in London all day. EDIT: Angola v Portugal coming next. |
