Both were in games of injustice. Am glad England stayed on and hopefully we can beat Portugal if they are missing Deco and Ronaldo (from injury). I'm also sad Mexico went out (pleased I got another prediction right though), Mexico may not have deserved to win, but they certainly did not deserve to go out in harsh circumstances such as extra time. An interesting day lined up tomorrow. Brazil vs Ghana, should result in a Brazil win, I think 2-0. And France vs Spain which Spain really should win, maybe 2-1. |

Switzerland and Ukraine are playing extra time as I'm posting this, and it's the first time I didn't finish watching a game out of boredom. I still have the tv on, and it looks like it will be a penalty shootout. The annoying thing is that the winner of this match play Italy in the quarterfinal, which means there's a very big chance Italy will reach the semis. I really hope tomorrow's matches are better than today's. They sure look promising. Like NN, I predict Brazillian and Spanish victories. | |

Just about the most boring international of modern times. Incidentally, Que Sera, sera (Whatever will be, will be) is playing in the stadium. Appropriate. |

Shevchenko took the penalty and chipped it right to the keeper! 2nd penalty goes to Switzerland, they could take the lead. They don't! It's saved! It was worse than Shevchenko's penalty, straight down the middle Ukraine's second penalty is scored, confidently taken. First time the ball has hit the back of the net. Switzerland's second hits the bar! Straight down the middle and hit the bar, unbelievable! Ukraine could go take a huge step to going through here on their 3rd penalty. Rebrov has scored! Switzerland's third is crucial, they have to score. He doesn't! It's saved! Straight down the middle, a poor penalty Now Ukraine could go through to the quarter final...THEY DO! Ukraine have reached the quarter final on their world cup debut in frnakly, a pathetic game that didn't deserve a victor. Ukraine showed the most ambition though. |

Since they couldn't even score with penalty kicks, Switzerlands don't deserve to go through. Interesting statistic: they didn't suffer a single goal against in any of their matches. Italy - Ukraine it is. Go Shevchenko! And I would like to see more of Milevski. |

Even though I am (half) Italian, I live in a predominantly Ukrainian neighbourhood (there was quite a bit of celebrating in the streets going on as I was walking home from the subway). I am considering going to see Friday's game in the pub, however I may be fearful for my life if I do. ![]() |

As a Dutchman I could never support Germany, but I must admit I think they have a very big chance of winning, and they even played pretty well in their last two matches. In fact, I think it's very well possible that the future winner comes from the quarter final between Germany and Argentina. |

It was a deserved win, though since Ghana just couldn't score, even though they played quite well. It doesn't even matter whether Adriano was offside when he scored the 2nd goal or not. It was also the match in which Ronaldo scored a record breaking 15th World Cup goal. Last round of 16 match tonight. Go Spain! |

I must admit that France played better in this match than they did before, and that Spain played worse than they did in their previous match, but overall I think Spain deserved to win. The free kick that lead to the 2-1 should never have been given: Henry pulled a Figo. It does mean there will be an interesting quarter final, a rematch of the 1998 final. The quarterfinal line-up: Germany - Argentina Italy - Ukraine England - Portugal Brazil - France I think the first one is very hard to call. In the other three I expect Italy, Brazil and Portugal to go through, although I really hope I'm wrong in the last case. There's two football-less days ahead now. How will I cope? :P I guess I'll just watch some Wimbledon. |

Gender: Posts: 8,298 Thanks: 84 Thanked 41 Times in 31 Posts | I honestly think Germany can beat Argentina, we have a better chance of beating Portugal this time around chiefly because we should have Rooney for 90 minutes, a better starting XI overall and Portugal have Deco and Costinha suspended, advantage us. Brazil should win against France but it will be a good game if France maintain the form they showed last night against Spain. Also Italy should go through, although we could have another scrappy game on our hands there, going on how they played in their 2nd round games. |

Christiano Ronaldo will be able to play, won't he? I think this could be a close match as well. Just don't let it go down to a penalty shootout. |
