ARG Maxi Rodriguez. Argentina x Mexico 2-1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgGMXq0XuDw 2. ENG Joe Cole. Sweden x England 0-1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEydQpLmp0I 3. GER Torsten Frings. Germany x Costa Rica 4-2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2DKysY7e_c 4. USA Clint Dempsey. USA x Ghana 1-1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihs_f0QIRNI 5. ARG Esteban Cambiasso. Argentina x Serbia 2-0. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhXEGgFAhno Best Hair: Loco (ANG) ![]() Player of the Tournament: 1. Andrea Pirlo (ITA) In addition to driving home the Cup winning PK, played unbreakable d all tournament, as well as having 3 assists. But the stat that really stands out is 0 yellow or red cards. As clean a player as they come (for an Italian )2. Miroslav Klose (GER) Showed up in every game, won the Golden Boot and hit the clutch equalizer against Argentina. Team of the Tournament: Italy Cant argue with a team thats only two goals came off an own goal and a garbage penalty kick call. Most Exciting Team: Ivory Coast Best Fans: England Easily the loudest on average, never seemed to let up the singing and chanting, or the rousing choruses of God Save the Queen. Hell, they drank the German pubs dry. Runners up: 2. Germany 3. Mexico 4. Australia 5. France Best Goal Celebration: These were a big let down this year. Way below par compared to previous years. More players were satisfied with giving off a business as usual vibe than going crazy. But the winners gotta be: ECU Ivan Kaviedes ![]() Not only are yellow Spiderman masks the tits, he was paying respect to to striker Otilino "Spiderman" Tenorio who was killed in a car crash about a month before the tournament. Best Match: 1. Argentina 2-1 Mexico (Round of 16) 2. Sweden 2-2 England 3. Ivory Coast 3-2 Serbia 4. Korea 2-1 Togo 5. Germany 4-2 Costa Rica Worst Match: Ukraine-Switzerland, Round of 16. 120 minutes of boring ass football followed by a shootout that Switzerland sucked it up in. Biggest Surprises: 1. France. Whod of thought Les Bleus, coming off a World Cup flop in 02 where they didnt score a single goal, would go to the final after drawing its first two games? 2. Ecuador Best Studio Anchor: Eric Wynalda. Told it like it was, even went as far to calling out Bruce Arena saying the US' play was unacceptable after the Czech game. Best Commentator: Tommy Smyth. Simply because of "AND HE TUCKS IT HOME INTO THE BACK OF THE OL' ONION BAG!" Biggest WTF Moment: 1. Zidane's headbutt. 2. Seeing Brent Musberger in the studio. Biggest Disappointment: 1. FIFA not cracking down on diving. 2. Brasil. Anything other than a title is always a disappointment for Brasil, but the hype this year was so big its hard to not feel let down by their poor showing. 3. Serbia and Montenegro. The Fearsome Four defense that we heard so much about, the defense that allowed one goal in 17-some odd qualifying matchesthey just didnt show up. Nor did the rest of the team. 4. United States. Tough group, but we didnt help our case. Ive covered all this, tired of thinking about it. 5. Zlatan. 6. Ruud Van Nistelrooy Worst Call: The "foul" in extra time against Australia that gave Italy a PK to ge them out of the round of 16. Sportsmanship Award: Iran. Helped up the opposition after every challenge, presented gifts to the opposing teams captain, I loved it. From what I hear, the tournament was ran superbly, and South Africa is going to have large shoes to fill in four years. Until then. Last edited by ShyGuy727; 07-12-2006 at 01:18 PM. |
