Here's the top spots according to me:

Angels: Playing in L.A., so you keep the major market. They're already a contender, and adding A-rod could push them over the edge.

Cubs: Pinella there is a big draw since they were close in Seattle. Cubs are a huge draw because they're in a major market and the Trib Co. has access to tons of money and by all accounts are going to try to finally put the pieces in place.

Dodgers: Play in LA, historic franchise, died in October this year from lack of solid hitting once Nomar went down. Nowhere near the pressure cooker that New York is. Access to a huge media market, and seem committed to winning a championship in the next two years.

Padres: Consistantly lose to the Cards in the postseason due to lack of any sort of power production. Market size and prominence is offset by the low expectations and lack of pressure.

White Sox: Have the money and prospects/players to deal. Major media market, nowhere near the fishbowl of New York. Possibly will need a new short-stop now that Uribe is a suspect for shooting someone in the Dominican Republic.

Teams you can safely rule out:

Boston: No way in hell they'll send him to Boston. Too many ways that could bite them in the ass. Simply can't see them sending A-rod to their biggest rival.

Mets: See above, except change biggest rival to cross-town competition.

Devil Rays, Marlins, Royals, Brewers, Rockies, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Reds, Orioles, Nationals, Twins, Indians, Tigers, A's, : Not willing to shell out and/or develop a winning product and/or no direction and/or uncommitted ownership groups and/or don't need him

Texas/Seattle: already burned those bridges

On the cust:

Philly: Could see them making a huge splash with this move. Problems include lack of really anything to send in a deal, potential spending issues, and directional issues from the club.

Astros: Need the power and hitting. Have the pitching, need the offense. Problem: this is the same club that was too cheap to retain Beltran after his killer postseason with them.

Cards: Where would they put him in the lineup? Rolen and Pujols have the corners and Eckstein is at short. Not sure if the Cards would want to part with Rolen for A-rod, and not sure if they would want to give up the pitching players for him.

Toronto: Willing to spend, have people to trade, looking to compete for a title. Problem: Canadian market so nobody cares, division contender with the Yanks.

Giants: Desperately need a new powerhitter to take advantage of a ballpark designed for the deepball and to take attention away from/give lineup protection to Barroid. Don't have much to give up since its an old team, and questionable if they would shell out for A-rod. Main need is pitching.

Arizona: Has MLB ready players to give up, Phoenix is a rapidly growing market, team already has a ring, no pressure. Problems include picking up his salary, sacrificing their future players.

If he goes anywhere, it'll be Chicago, if the Cubs are willing to pay that much that is.

The yanks being out of it and possibly trading the highest paid player in baseball is still bigger news that the team that gets the privledge to lose to the Tigers.

Which LA?

No. Just the Skankees, Red Sucks, and Flubs. Mostly I have these nicknames for teams generally viewed as mass bandwagon teams, because I don't like bandwagoning. And that's in all sports. Other teams I don't like I just call them by their official name. The main problem I have is with bandwagon teams. -CSM

Not that I think the Astros are going to be pursuing A-Rod all that aggressively, but cheap? They had the third highest payroll in baseball this past year.

The only reason the astros are skewed that high is that they had several big players get raises, extensions or otherwise (started the year ninth, but Clemens kicked them up with his half-year salary, opening day went from like 72 last year to 92 this year). They're not exactly a franchise that adds players by outbidding everyone else. Prime example: Carlos Beltran. They retain Beltran, they likely win a World Series. Instead, they cheap out and die because they can't produce runs.

This is the same team that was looking to shed Oswalt in the middle of a pennant race to get rid of salary.

How can scUM fans hate bandwagon fans?

Thing is, hating a team because they're popular and/or winning is stupid. I at least have some deep rooted disturbing reason for disliking various teams.

^Yeah, this from someone from Indiana (or is it Illinois?) who jumped on the OSU bandwagon instead of rooted for Indiana. -CSM

Well Beltran did get something crazy like 17 million a year for 7 years. I don't even think we pay Berkman that much.

I guess you're right if New Orleans = Indiana. I guess the blatant Saints homerisms a few months ago made it hard to tell. Come on, even Shelty knew that.

As for the OSU bandwagon, I called that last February, though maybe not here (I'm not sure when I first called the OSU/ND thing here). Not my fault I'm a realist. I don't even like College football. I just make a call for the national championship game and spend the rest of the season hoping for BCS chaos. Arguing that OSU isn't good is stupid. You can make an argument against USC because I don't think they're the top team in that conference (Oregon), and you can make an argument as to why Auburn is ranked higher than Arkansas, but OSU is number 1 and everyone else is in distant pile. That might change if scUM can beat them in the horseshoe, but I'm not sure they'll be able to go in and beat OSU at home.

Thing is, Beltran also delivered in the post-season and was a key factor in pushing the Astros into the race that year. If they kept Beltran, they'd have an absolutely nasty 3,4,5 part of the order and would likely win at least 10 more games a year because they wouldn't have things where Clemens would throw a 1 run, 3 hit complete game and they'd lose 1-0.
