(very unpleasant story ahead) I am on the cross country team and today I went to the cross country regionals. This will be the saddest and most interesting athletic story you will ever hear about involving a VGF member. Here is how it all starts out: I get a singlet to represent our school and almost miss the start of the race. Then when I start the race all is well. I sprint to the front of the race to get past the narrow part then I ease off my speed after that. When the race started I did not expect it to be as fast as it was. People were passing me all over. I lost 30 positions there but I expected that. We were now at an out in the open and a flat part of the course. I ran that and then I realized how tired I was because I was running super fast from the start. It was a completely flat course! I hate flat courses because a. I like uphills and downhills To get some rest and to know how fast I should be running and b. We were not trained to run a completely flat course. While were running it decided to turn from a little sprinkle to a heavy downpour while we were running. Funny? If it was I was not in the least bit amused. Then we came along part 2: The corn field. There were many sharp turns in the corn field. The Corn field was in a mess. It had puddles and mudslides through the whole thing. So I went through puddles of mud and got my legs and shorts lathered in mud. I could not run through the corn field since I slid too much. I was completely wet and muddy all over by now and my hair was muddy and wet as well. Then after that we kept running until we came along the only big hill in the race which was a super death sentence. You could not run nor walk up this hill but you had to push yourself super hard draining most of your remaining energy after everything you have gone through in the rest of the race. I then ran the last part of the race muddy wet and super tired. Then during the last part of the race I lost my shoe in a mud puddle. I ran on muddy, wet, super tired and I only had one shoe. I ran and ran trying to keep ahead of all the people behind me for the home stretch! Then a guy from the other team handed me my show and I threw it to my coach while running. I get to the last part and now I am muddy, wet, super tired, only have one shoe, am numb and I can barley move my arms or legs. I get to the spot where I get to find out my place. I found out it was 79. There were 130 runners so I was around the middle. I was very happy because I was way better than I was the year before. That will be a memorable day in my life. |
