Intentional cheap shot. No doubt about it. Even people that play under the goal in pick-up games at the playground know that's a filthy hit. If you think he shouldn't have been in the game that long, Duke shouldn't have been calling time outs and trying to win either. Way to keep it classy Coach Kahkrooksky. |

He was whacking where the ball would've been if Hansbrough hadn't gotten stripped. Sucks for T-Money that his face was there instead. Henderson was going for a hard foul probably, but definitely wasn't trying to take anyone out. And I can't believe you're shunning Duke for trying to stay in the game and for not giving up. |

I've played inside enough to know that when you rush from that far out to jump up at a ball and swat and then jam your elbow into UNC's STAR PLAYER's grill that it's a cheap shot. If it was some chumpchange, I'd be a bit more hesitant to say "cheap-shot." When your team just got swept by UNC and got beat by Maryland in your house and are plummetting in the rankings and you're looking at a lower bracket seed and you "accidentally" elbow UNC's star player in the face, breaking his nose and making a bloodpool in the lane, it raises an eyebrow. If you're legitimately in that situation, you try to stop your arm from going Hiroshima on someone's face. You pull back, you turn, you change direction, you DON'T commit a tech unless you mean it. This wasn't on par with Chaney sending in the goon to break that kid's arm a few years ago, or on the same level as the GM kid going Chernobyl on some kid's groin with his fist, but it a cheap shot none-the-less and, in my opinion, that kid should have gotten an NCAA Tourny game suspension, not the ACC tourny. And it isn't like it's the first time we've seen this out of Duke. They did the same thing to Hansbrough last year. Dockery cranked him in the face LAST YEAR. GEE. SEEMS A BIT STRANGE TO HAPPEN TWO YEARS IN A ROW. ![]() Refer to Laettner stomping Kentucky where it hurts. And using "He shouldn't have been in the game in the first place" is a lame excuse. First, Duke leaves their starters in all the damn time. Second, that didn't work for Issiah Thomas, it doesn't work for Coach KuhKrooksky. Last edited by Lurch1982; 03-05-2007 at 08:48 PM. |

Did you see this week's coaches' poll? Maryland is ahead of Duke, but by a measley ONE. This is Maryland, a team that swept Duke and won its UNC game, and Duke, a team that got swept by Maryland AND UNC. -CSM |

Yeah, Maryland went nuts against the Carolinas this year, 10-0: 7-0 vs North Carolina (2-0 vs Duke, 1-0 vs UNC, 2-0 vs N.C. State, 1-0 vs Wake Forest, 1-0 vs High Point), and 3-0 against South Carolina (2-0 over Clemson, 1-0 over Winthrop.) Terps should be a very popular tournament team.

But in all honesty, I think they're probably only going to the sweet sixteen. Elite eight is also a possibility, but I don't see the Terps in the Final Four. -CSM |

Going further, Hansbrough isn't going to say "hell no that **** was intentional" because UNC, for all of it's issues, is a generally classy institution when handling things like this. If this were, say, an SEC or Big 12 school, they'd be whining for months. Again, I've played under the goal my entire life. That's intentional. There are ways to not smash his nose into the back of his face. |

Refer to countless instances where teams play off blatantly bad and abysmal game-changing calls, hard fouls, or other things of that nature being "part of the game." Props to Hansbrough for having more class than Duke. KuhKrooksky's whining and pissy explainations says it all ("He shouldn't have been in," "it wasn't dirty becasue it wasn't with a balled up fist,"). Karl Malone would admit that was a dirty elbow. |

I think the big deal is how interesting the coverage has been. If this were some random team doing that to a rival's star player, the press would be all over them saying they sent in the goons. The Dookies got a free pass on something where they should have gotten flack for it. Remember when Zeke said that the Nuggets shouldn't have kept their starters in after he told his players to goon it up and how it didn't work and people threw him into a pit for it? Why doesn't the same thing happen to KuhKroozsky when he uses the same (very lame) excuse for it? *Except Florida State and the U, I hate them too.
