Meh. It's not football, and remember that UNC lost their 2005 opener to Santa Clara, and if I recall they did pretty well the rest of the season...

That's the joys of a playoff system as opposed to bowl retardation. Losses don't really matter until March.

And what, are you going to post one of these things every time a basketball team loses?

If people are going to drag Appy State on out until the next time Michigan loses, than yes. -CSM

Next time Michigan loses? That was the following week.

I mean, now that Michigan is 6-0 in conference play, and most teams still won't shut up about Appy State. -CSM

Football is different on so many scales. First, one loss can pretty much kill your season. Second, it's a hell of a lot easier to field a basketball team than a football team. You only need a dozen guys as opposed to 50-100, and in reality you can win with a whole slew of combos in hoops ranging from one superstar and role players to a team of athletes that run 40 minutes of hell.

Whereas football by comparision is far less fair and less likey for extremely small schools to compete. Maybe its the lack of scholarships or the lack of the ability to get enough top prospects to head to small schools to make a difference. Gee, I'm not sure. Basketball programs can be competitive on all levels, especially when the smaller schools start clipping transfers from large schools with offers of playtime.

Mocking teams for losing in November in College Hoops is silly. Especially when 2 you cite (MSU and OSU) didn't lose a game that counts for anything in the standings.

Well, do you know how long I've been mocked for the Appy State thing?

On the Michigan forum I'm a member of, we repeatedly see posts like:

"Appalachian State - 34 Michigan 32. O...H....?"

It was funny the week after the loss. But it's not funny now.

All these basketball upsets will become old news FAST. -CSM

I thought we'd been over this-

Because #5 Michigan, probably the greatest college football program of all-time lost to, at home, a 1-AA school they paid $400,000 to presumably give a beat down to. Until another FCS team beats a ranked 1-A team, Michigan is not going to live it down.

You can't even begin to try and compare it to a early season basketball loss that in the grand scheme of things more than likely won't matter come March.

And until that time...LOL Michigan.

^What did I just tell you?

IT'S NOT FUNNY ANYMORE. TELL ME SOMETHING THAT'S ACTUALLY NEWS. NO MORE RUBBING IT IN.

(I'm sorry I have to sound so in-your-face, but ShyGuy thinks that OSU is immune from any and all criticism and Michigan never deserves to be praised ever again, no matter how they do against anyone, just because of that one game that we screwed up and I gave my analysis on (which was very much anti-Michigan and no-excuses) that's ancient history now.) -CSM

EDIT: This is the Sports forum, we do that around here, take it or leave it.

OSU didn't lose to its bribed cupcakes in foozball either. While they may pay players and cover it up (allegedly), they didn't get beat in their own house by a FCS team.

Oh, no, it's still pretty damn funny (and the rest of Ohio, if not the country)- and you might as well get used to it because every top upsets list of all time made from now on, App State-Michigan is going to be in the top 5, up their with Virginia-Chaminade, Douglas-Tyson, etc.

The game also had symbolism in that it presented to the entire country, and not just Big Ten country that Michigan is eroding as a football program and is not as elite as they once were.

And I don't think Ohio State is immune, it's just that most of the time I can defend them reasonably well because you present a weak argument. You could just say 41-14 to get under my skin, but that'd be hypocrisy on your part after what you posted above, since it was "ages" ago.

^Will you guys shut up about Appy State already? We're past it and we beat a ranked team the same year, as well as two teams that were ranked at some point before we played them. So I'm sick of this Appy State B.S. Anyone who continues to mention it is a troll in my opinion. -CSM

YOU ARE NOT PAST IT. It's still in the computers, and could cost you a BCS at large bid.

^And we could still win out and win the Big Ten and win the automatic Rose Bowl berth. Beyond that, I'd personally rather play Florida in a non-BCS bowl than Oregon again. -CSM

But if you don't....Appy State hurts. If Mich mandhandles Wiscy this weekend, loses in a somewhat respectable fashion to Ohio State, you'll probably be around 14-15 in the BCS rankings I'm guessing, and would be rooting against 3-4 teams to get slaughtered in the next two weeks to try and help you into the top 12.

^^Excuse me?

^You're right, but just because Michigan lost to Appy State two months ago doesn't mean they're the worst team in the Big Ten. They beat half of it.

What would be interesting is if OSU would still be in the NC game if Michigan beats them. -CSM
