Jorge Posada extended with the Yanks and Todd Jones extended with Detroit. Weak pitching crop this year. Expect bigger splashes in the trade market. Look for a ChiSox deal with one of their extras and possibly Toronto and Minnesota dealing off their top guys. Arod, Tori Hunter, and Andruw Jones look to be some of the bigger names in Free Agency. |

They could take a run at Arod and jam him at first, but I don't see him staying in NYC just from the back pages. Really, they shouldn't make too many changes. They should have been in the World Series, but they decided to pull the biggest chokejob in the modern era. |

Omar has come out and said they'll be focusing on pitching, and I'm holding to his word on that. They'll almost certainly sign one of Lohse or Silva, preferrably the former. Silva doesn't really strike me as an exceptional talent. As a sinkerballer there'll be a ton of NL teams in hitter's ballparks (read: Philadelphia) willing to throw exorbitant money at him. Shea and CitiField won't necessitate this. Lohse has the stuff, he's just loses his head out there a bit. Rick Peterson should help to alleviate this, though he was frighteningly useless to the team in September. A deal with Oakland for a Joe Blanton or Rich Harden is possible, but would come at a rather steep price. Someone is almost assuredly being traded from the Mets this year, considering they have three blue-chip outfielders in their system and there aren't enough spots for all of them. Bullpen help is a must. I could see them making a strong run at a Linebrink and possibly one of Gagne or Wood, assuming they're willing to accept a role in middle relief to start a season. Delgado probably has to go - if this team is going to carry mediocre hitting corner outfielders then the first baseman has to perform. Delgado can't. If the Mets make one big move, I'd suspect it'd be there. In the larger picture, I see Rodriguez going to the Angels. I know Artie Moreno has said it won't happen, but it's really a perfect fit. No current 3B, huge market, a lot of available money, hole in the middle of the lineup. It's the most logical fit. Other than that, I doubt there'll be any major deals in the way of Santana, Willis, Lincecum. Cabrera could end up in the Bronx, but the Marlins would require a ton of pitching from the Yanks who would be reluctant to give it up (and rightfully so). The biggest moves could come out of San Francisco, where it sounds like Sabean is looking to sell everything possible. If Lowry, Cain, Lincecum etc. are really available for trade, there could be a major bidding war taking place in San Francisco over those guys. Lincecum in particular is very intriguing, that kid has a ton of talent. |
