Brandon Jennings, or how I learned to stop worrying and follow Pryor's example

Well, according to the latest, the #1 basketball recruit in the nation Brandon Jennings ditched Arizona for Europe.

But considering Zona is now in the "I don't like you until the circumstances change" position right now (because they, a team worse than Syracuse....got to play in the tourney this past March and my beloved Orange didn't), I'm a little relieved.

Normally, I'd be upset at all this though. Why? Because I think players shouldn't rely on their basketball skills to get them places. What if Jennings is a failure in Europe? What if this will start a trend?

And more importantly, what will happen to recruits signed by the likes of Tubby Smith, Jim Calhoun, Bob Huggins, Billy Donovan, Ben Howland, Tom Izzo, Bruce Pearl, and most importantly (in my eyes), Gary Williams and Jim Boeheim? And what about those recruits who promised to help rebuilding programs such as Georgia and Michigan (especially since it seems to be taking forever in both cases)?

As a Syracuse fan, I know what it's like to have people pretty much **** on your school. Both Carmelo Anthony AND Donte Green said they'd stay, but they turned their backs on us.

So I feel a little sympathy for Olson's bunch right now.....until basketball season starts up and I'll be waiting for the next Pac-10 school worse than Cuse to take a spot in the tourney ahead of Cuse.

And to top it all off, why the hell are these top recruits waiting until the very last minute to make these decisions? Terrelle Pryor kept all of us in suspense for a long time when he finally announced he'd be heading for the University of Ohio State (and of course, pissing off Michigan fans in the process). Is this gonna happen every year from now on both in football AND in basketball? -CSM

I'm not complaining. I'm just really wondering what impact this will have on recruiting. If he committed to Syracuse, Maryland, Georgia, or Michigan, I'd complain. -CSM

Skipping college for the Euroleagues isn't a guarantee that you'll go to the NBA, which is why you don't see more high profile players doing it.

^I'm just worried if it'll start a trend...and I'm worried for Jennings himself. If he turns out to be a failure he has no recourse in anything that's not basketball. -CSM

God forbid he takes his time on one the most important decisions of his life. For shame.

Hey, if he gets paid well, why not go to the Euroleagues? Who says the NBA has to be the end-all of basketball leagues?

^The same reason that the Premier League is the end-all of futbol leagues, despite the fact that the British national team isn't as good as its clubs.

Oh, and Olson's throwing a fit after losing two one-and-dones.

(and to be fair, I'd rather be in Tuscany than Tuscon anyday).

First off, its English National team, since Wales, Scotland, and N. Ireland get their own squads internationally.

Second, why would it be as good as its clubs when its clubs pulls players from all over the world. That's like complaining that the US Mens National Hockey team sucks compared to the Red Wings.

Third, the Premier league is better soccer than the rest of the Euroleagues. The only thing close IMO is the Spanish Premera.

^It's called La Liga, not the Primera. And I never denied the supremacy of the Premier League. I just don't like it. -CSM

La Liga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liga de Fútbol Profesional (Professional Football League), commonly known as the Primera División or simply La Liga or Liga BBVA[1], is the top professional football league in Spain.
