NHL playoffs

Who you got this year?

I hope my Rangers can pull it off, but they probably won't. A part of me thinks Pittsburgh will win it all (I don't want to pick frontrunners...)

Caps and Sharks in the finals.

Granted, if a hockey playoff happens and it isn't on tv in the US, does it actually happen?

It better be on TV. If it's not it's a travesty. -CSM

Unless you're in a local market or get a local market feed, the only nationally televised games are on Vs., which you may or may not get. NBC has one game on each Saturday and Sunday (and remember, NBC is the same network that preempted an OT playoff game for horse blankets and didn't air a game of the Stanley Cup in half its markets due to a telethon). If you don't have Vs. and aren't in a local market, you're pretty much screwed.

I remember they preempted it for a Cardinals game in St. Louis last year. And what's horse blankets?

The media ought to be ashamed, especially for paying more attention to the Masters than this, which is just the season opening golf tournament rather than play for an actual title, which is what hockey is doing right now. -CSM

I'm kinda weird about hockey. I love going to a game, but unless a Texas team is in the semifinals or better, you won't catch me caring or watching it on TV. The year the Stars and the Aeros both won out was pretty cool for me. My fiancee's more of a Calgary fan.

TV Schedule:
Sat May 24 Game 1: Vs.
Mon May 26 Game 2: Vs.
Wed May 28 Game 3: NBC
Sat May 31 Game 4: NBC
Mon June 2 Game 5: NBC
Wed June 4 Game 6: NBC
Sat June 7 Game 7: NBC

Great idea guys. Games 1 and 2 are on VERSES. Congrats on freezing out anyone that isn't on a digital cable tier. If you can't get your championship series on network TV for all 7 games, you officially have a ****ty TV deal. If this is a short series, it could be almost over before anyone can really watch.

Stanley Cup ratings up 79% compared to last year.

(though they really didn't have anywhere to go but up, I think a rerun of West Wing out rated them last year)

ESPN TV deal plz?

I read something on Deadspin a few weeks ago that ESPN is probably going to spin off Classic to ESPN 3. They're trying to pick up Premier League games (hence the Euro Cup push this summer on ESPN 1/2) and possibly an NHL deal. Though I'm just going to bank on Bristol jamming more **** sports like Arena Football and Major League Lacrosse on it.

I doubt they'll get an ESPN deal in place because they already upped with NBC and Vs. NBC gets Sunday games (at noon) and flex schedule ability, and Vs. retains Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup finals (DUMB DUMB DUMB NOBODY GETS THIS CHANNEL ON A NON DIGITAL TIER).

I didn't catch games 1 and 2 because I didn't have control of the cable box those nights, I was busy and missed game 3. And game 4 was preempted in my market for a telethon. Game 5 and 6 were good though.

Hey now, AFL gets a good amount of fans, with some publicity it could get a bigger following.

It gives towns without NFL teams some football to watch.

It just feels wasted in towns with NFL/NBA teams. The best thing about the Hornets succeeding last year is that another year of success means the Voodoo are packing up and shipping out.

Eh, it depends, Georgia Force has a strong following (mainly because the Falcons suck) as do a few other teams. But you're right, teams are flopping like crazy and moving around (Nashville Kats ---> KC Brigade, Las Vegas Gladiators ---> Cleveland Gladiators) almost every season.

The AFL's always been like that IIRC. Lots of team movement and folding, not much stability. Apparently only one franchise has been around since the beginning (Tampa Bay Storm, started out in Pitt).

ArenaFan Online : AFL Historical Franchise Chart

I'd think a better approach would be to hit non-NFL markets that are also football crazy. Like Alabama.

Actually Birmingham had a D2 team taht got a LOT of attention, I don't know why they just go ahead and put one there. Birmingham's been hungry for an NFL team since the Barracudas of the CFL used to be here.

I watch AFL when there's nothing else on. I'd prefer hockey, though.
