Apparently Federal prosecutors have something like a 96% conviction rate. And that's 96% of the 10% that go to trial because they didn't plead guilty before then.

Pete Rose is a different case. He committed Baseball's worst possible crime while a manager, but there wasn't and never was a question as to any of his on-the-field accomplishments. With Bonds, there is, was, and always will be the question of how legitimate his records are, whereas there isn't a question with Rose. Rose is mainly kept out because of the upstanding character requirements that the hall has--mainly because he's a liar (though ironic that Ty Cobb still holds the highest vote total ever and is in the Hall). Bonds won't be in because he's a liar and a cheat.
