Only problem is he'll be 30, but if he can pull a Jamal Lewis and keep himself in incredible shape while locked up, then he should be fine. |

Play Shockley next season and I might just become a Falcons fan. -CSM |

Face it, Atlanta wants him back, they'd take him back in an instant. This is a guy who basically was a gullable idiot who made a huge mistake. He serves his time, he'll be fine. Believe it or not, a lot of people I know are in awe at the sentence he's gotten (myself as well).

It's pretty generous. I'm still not behind all of the coverage and media this guy gets though. It wasn't as big a deal as it was made out to be. He made a mistake, he's serving his time, now let's finally talk about something else. |

Once I can find the article about it, I'll post it, something about drug rehab or somethin. |

He'll be in no shape mentally or physically to get back into the game effectively after almost 2 years locked up in a cell. He should just dedicate his life to giving lectures for PETA. |

He didn't murder a man (Ray Lewis) He didn't sell drugs (Jamal Lewis) He didn't beat his wife (Ricky Manning Jr. and the Cincinnatti Bengals) He wasn't arrested for DUI (Tank Johnson) He wasn't a thug (Cincinatti again) He killed dogs, and while that's wrong, you can't tell me that's anywhere near any one of these other than the drugs, and yes, Lewis DID his time for that. He came back. And before anyone starts this "you're pulling for him just cause he was a Falcon" bull****, let's understand that if anyone was given a 23-month sentence for something like this, I'd be saying the same thing. If you're going to turn your nose at all these other offences, why aren't you turning your nose at this one? |

Killing dogs is worse than selling drugs. Killing dogs is worse than DUI. Killing dogs is worse than... being a "thug," however you're using that term... As far as murder, it depends on the circumstance. |

I'm not in awe that people despise dogfighting, I'm in awe at the number of people that would put the life of an animal or pet above the life or future of a child, or person. What kind of message does beating your wife send? We continue to let it pass. What kind of message does dealing drugs send when you already have millions of dollars? We continue to let that pass. What kind of message do we send when we give someone with a DUI a slap on the wrist? I'm sure those who haev lost loved ones due to someone driving under the influence aren't too happy with that one. If you're going to dig one man a grave, you may need to start digging for the others as well. No one in the media gave an honest f*** about dogfighting until Vick's case came along.

Jamal Lewis was convicted of trying to set up the deal and didn't get the fullblown charges. He got jail and a 2 game suspension. Wife-beating, while horrible, isn't generally anything more than assault/battery. DUI's open up different cans of issues. Just ask Koren Robinson and his one year suspension based on his repeated DUIs. Tank Johnson's issues were with gun possessions and his bodyguard getting shot. He was pulled over speeding, and initial reports had him with a DUI, but he wasn't charged. Here's the issues with the Vick case: He plead guilty to real charges, not plead down. He did not cooperate. He lied repeatedly. He failed a drug test. Getting into specifics: he was participating and running aspects of an underground gambling ring. Cardinal rule of sports: Do. Not. Associate. With. Gambling. Elements. Killing the dogs, while horrible, is the icing on the cake and only provides more time on top of the base charges. Simple fact is Congress went considerably harsh when they designed the law, as they should have. To me, 23 months is far less than what he should have gotten. It isn't like he was just at a match gambling. Vick was funding, training, participating, and hosting matches and funnelling money into an illegal activity, was consequently busted, and was going to get convicted because his boys turned state evidence on him. His 23 months would have been less if he would have cooperated more than he did (ie: stick with the same story and give more names/players in the dogfighting world) or he wouldn't have failed and lied about a drug test. If anything, you should be wondering why the NFL let the legal process work on Vick while it threw Pacman, Tank Johnson, and half the Bungles under the bus before the legal process kicked in. Obviously, there's a huge difference between the effects of marijuana and crystal meth. Even so, the effects that drugs will have on the community aren't usually what's on the dealer's mind, who is usually concerned with making money. Killing dogs serves no purpose other than killing dogs. That's not to say the effect of it is as bad as drug dealing, but the intent is much worse. The difference between electrocution and drowning of dogs and DUI is the intentional causing of a cruel and unusual death. DUI is generally someone too drunk and stupid to realize they shouldn't be driving. Once again, it's the whole balancing of intent vs. effect. As far as the murder of another human being goes, the only reason we would consider it worse than the murder of a dog is because we are human, and we value ourselves above other species. But does being more intellectual and complex than other creatures make us more deserving of life? Considering the culture Vick grew up on and his methods of killing, I'm pretty sure he wasn't planning on eating those dogs. |
