Welcome to New York, Johan!

Everyone thought he'd be going to that OTHER "New York" team. But he's coming to Queens to join the Mets. Hopefully they won't have the complete spin we were in last September this year. But knowing my personal luck they probably will. -CSM

Knowing the Mets, this will either collapse due to not being able to reach a contract by 5pm tomorrow (looking possible with the news coming out today) or that it'll wind up as another Met trade blunder where they sacrificed the farm for the "last key part" (Mo Vaughn, Roberto Alomar).

From the Twins standpoint, they got ripped the **** off. They didn't even get the best Met available this offseason. That would have been Lasting Millage, who went to the Nats for Church and some other garbage. Having seen both play in AAA New Orleans (yeah, we've been getting screwed with affiliates lately...getting the Nats where anyone good was called up and the Mets, where anyone good was in AA), I'd go with Millage over Church. More upside and in his early 20s as opposed to 29.

Even still, the Twinkes got ripped because they got nothing that can help right now. They're banking that one of these prospects can actually live up to it, but the odds don't indicate that it will happen. Even if all of them develop into above average players, they traded out one of the best pitchers in the game. They could have at least gotten ready players from both the Yanks and the Sawx, I have no clue why they'd get garbage from the Mets.

Also, its disgraceful that it got to this point. He should have been extended 2 years ago.

Screw whoever thought up the Millage-Church deal. I say it's a disgrace. -CSM

I'm OK with Ryan Church for now, so long as he's only keeping the seat warm for Fernando Martinez's arrival circa June 2009.

The Twins definitely didn't get full value for this trade, but they really have nobody to blame but themselves for that. They totally overplayed their hand with the Yanks-Sox thing in December, and are left with probably the third or fourth best offer they received. Too bad, so sad.

I would be shocked if the Mets and Johan don't reach an agreement. You don't make a trade of this magnitude and then let it fall apart over one year and 20 mil. At least not if you're the Mets and you claim to big a whale in the free agent/trade market. It would be a complete disgrace if they were unable to sign Santana. I just can't see that happening.

Especially because the Mets are, like, the one team that players actually will go out of their way to make deals with. That's how they got Moises Alou. -CSM

Alou after he was 40 and most teams didn't want an aging player.

They cut that way too close. Two hour extention and even that went down to the wire? Say what you want about Scott Boras; if this were a Boras guy that deal would have been done prior to the trade.

As much as the Twins were fleeced on the deal, the Mets may be the ultimate losers if Santana breaks down suddenly (read: Pedro). I don't buy into the 20+ game winner and instant NL Cy Young winner either. Santana benefitted from playing in a trash division up until last year. There's really no hitting threats at all in the AL Central prior to Detroit's resurgence. I'm expecting about 15 wins and an ERA around 3.00, but no Cy Young. Might be 2nd best on the staff to like Maine.

^It beat Barry Zito's record.

I think if we get into an argument about money, the best answer will be this: MLB needs an effective salary cap. -CSM
