While it may not be illegal in the DR (it should be), it's illegal in 49/50 states with the last one slowly closing the door on it. There are enough people in this country that think cockfighting is a bad thing to outlaw it practically across the board. If people are going to slam Vick for killing dogs, people should slam Pedro for killing cocks. |

I think Pedro (and Delgado, who sucks anyway), should be fined by the league and the Mets should suspend them for a month. I think that's a fair punishment. Although Delgado won the Roberto Clemente award for humanitarian work, so I don't see why he should have to suffer because of this if he's a damn good humanitarian, which is something no one gives him credit for. We've went a year without Pedro and didn't choke until we had him back; we can do it again. -CSM |

It's part of the DR's culture and he shouldn't have to forego his home country's culture just because he works in the US. Would you freak out if Ricky Williams was seen smoking a J in Amsterdam? Vick was running the whole damn operation, there's a little bit of a difference. I'm sure what KFC does to its chicken's is 100x more immoral than cockifighting.

I don't have to respect it and if an Afghan athlete went home and partook in it I'd expect him to get nuked in public opinion. If Pao Gasol went home to Spain and jumped in the bullfighting ring, I'd be just as pissed off. It's a stupid move for any player in a Western sports league to do. That **** doesn't fly here, regardless if its legal in the third world. I don't eat KFC. |

And just because KFC does it doesn't mean it's right ShyGuy, nice try though. |

Yes, but neither should be locked up for it. I see no difference from killing animals for sport and hanging their heads up on your wall, and killing for fun. It's the same thing. |

His point is, if you're going to give one group of people hell for doing what's essentially the same thing that Group B is doing, you need to go ahead and bitch out group b.

Athletes are in the public eye and are often held to higher standards, like it or not and appropriate or not. Charles Barkley and John Daley can legally go out and blow thousands gambling. Doesn't mean they get a free pass for it. Travis Henry and Shawn Kemp can father as many children as they want, but they're still going to get grief for it. Athletes aren't going to get away with doing stupid things. Just ask Evan Fields (Evander Holyfield), Roidney Harrison, Pacman Jones, Stephen Jackson, Mike Vick, Pedro Martinez, any athlete that trashed himself on a motorcycle, any athlete getting into trouble after midnight in a strip club, Eugene Robinson getting pinged for getting a hooker after getting an award for his "high moral character" before Super Bowl XXXIII, the Vikings party boat, the Portland Jailblazers squad, Koren Robinson, Doc Gooden, any athlete with a drug problem, or really any athlete that simply does something questionable. If you do something stupid and get caught, you deserve to have mountains of **** dumped on you. Plenty of cultures have stupid and barbaric traditions, and I don't have to respect them. Contests where the point is to either maul an animal or have two or more animals maul each other are dumb and reprehensible. |
