Best in-state rivalry (Duke-UNC excluded)

I need to know what you think the best in-state rivalry is so I can feature it next week. If you choose "Other," please specify which one it is. Here's a list of rivalries I wish I had room to include:
Clemson-South Carolina
UNC-NC State
Maryland-Hopkins
UVA-Virginia Tech
Boston-Boston College
Wisconsin-Marquette
Lehigh-Lafayette
Pitt-Penn State
-CSM

^Hopkins is the closest you can get, even though that's just in lacrosse. I know Maryland has a thing with Georgetown, but that's not in state. As for that, the other D-I schools in Maryland are:
-Towson
-Navy
-UMBC
-UM-Eastern Shore
-Coppin State
-Morgan State

Jay, tell me if there's any animosity between those and Maryland. -CSM

The only ones that exist are:
-Maryland/Hopkins (Just Lacrosse)
-Maryland/Navy (Just Football, and not really anymore, although they are trying to get it started again, but not trying hard enough)

Maryland should have a rivalry with Georgetown, but Gary is too wussy/stupid/scared to schedule them.

Like I've said before in the past, Maryland has a rivalry complex.

^I don't ever seem to remember Maryland having a protected game with Navy. They have a protected series with WVU.

And again, G'Town isn't in state. -CSM

Yeah, the Maryland/Navy rivalry kind of died out in recent memory.

And yeah, Georgetown isn't in-state, but it's so friggen close (they're 14 effing miles apart!), it's a sin that they aren't rivals.

Some schools don't have in state rivals, but have fierce rivals outside of their state.

Like The University of Ohio State, LSU, Maryland, etc.

^True, but the theme of this poll is in-state. Next time I plan on doing public vs. private. -CSM

At my school, the name of the game is actually from the pros, and it's Ravens Vs. Redskins. Nobody really cares about college sports, they only really care about NFL football. I'm a Ravens nut (As you can no doubt tell) and most of the others in my classes are redskins nuts. Back when I was in middle school, there was at least a little diversion, but now in my high school, most of them are Redskins nuts while a relative few are Ravens fans.

So yeah, that's my favorite in-state rivalry (Even though Washington DC is technically not in maryland, Raven-Redskins is the rivalry of sports in-state at my school.)

I think my hate for the Redskins stemmed from my parents, as my mom was a Cowboys fan, while my dad was a Giants nut.

I wish people down here were that way about hte NFL. Even UAB students are dawning Alabama **** here, it's not like they didn't keep us from getting Jimbo Fisher or anything like that....

That said, Callaway is doing a hell of a job, so **** you Bama.

^Since when does UAB have a rival with Bama? Bama's rival is Auburn, and then Tennessee. UAB's chief rival is another school in Tennessee. Since Bama and Auburn are rivals with each other, if you guys want an intense in state rival, you can go with South Alabama (not a bad choice for basketball these days), Troy State, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Sanford, or Jacksonville State. -CSM

For one we're a Division 1 school, we're in Conference USA and we prefer to keep our rivals in D1 (Memphis, ECU, and Tulsa come to mind).

There's a rivalry that's not allowed to unfold because UAT won't let us. Basically when all your funding and sports related moves have to go through the bigger in-state school, you're screwed. We've done things in 40 years that UAT has yet to achieve academically. We couldn't get two blenders fixed in a campus restaurant because the board of trustees that handles all of that were taking care of some little **** for Saban at UAT. Bama refuses to play us, so we're going to take the Vols to the edge to hopefully get them to budge a little bit and let us play them. You may not believe it, but we have the talent and coaching to beat Tennessee and all the other teams on our schedule. See what the Hawks are doing right now? Yeah, we can do that.

^All those other schools I mentioned are D-1.

And I wish you guys the best of luck in bringing down the "powerhouses" which seem to not care much about academics (and I have bashed Bama many times, particularly their advertised luxury condos where you can "Throw a corn dog at Les Miles" among spitting and pissing and other rude things things that were built using federal tax dollars that are supposed to be rebuilding New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast).

Dre, I think you and my brother would get along very, very well. You have more in common with him than anyone I know. -CSM

Troy State: We actually have a home and home with them starting next season

Alabama State: We play them almost every year and we win....every year.

Alabama A&M- Not yet, but if they get mollywhopped by ASU this year they won't be seeing us anytime soon.

Sanford- We have

Jacksonville State- We have.

They're all D1 yes, but most are FCS/AA/Whatever.

^And there's something called basketball where these things don't matter.

Look at some rivalries. The rivalry between Boston and Boston College is very intense in ice hockey, but Boston doesn't even have a football team, and of course their basketball team isn't that good. And Hopkins plays most sports D-III, but their lacrosse is D-I and they have many intense rivalries with Syracuse, Virginia, Maryland, and Princeton among others in that sport. Football isn't everything. -CSM

Utah-BYU because

1) It spans two religions
2) There's nothing better to do in Utah than be fanatical about college football/the Jazz.

Plus it has the ingredients for the classic rivalry formula: small distance between schools, over 100 years old, similar student body size, private vs public, church vs state, successful in other sports, etc

In Alabama, yes it is.

I'm proud of our basketball history, but if you want a rivalry down here, it's either Bama football, Memphis/UAB, or GTFO

It seems Bama is the only state.
I could talk NFL in Georgia, I could talk NFL in Memphis.

Bama? Naw, because those boys don't play for the passion of the game /sarcasm.
