College football previews

I decided this year I'm gonna do expanded previews by conference by team.

I'll do a different post every few days until the end of August when the season starts. Let's start with the most underrated conference in college football: the Big East (hey, we have a winning BCS record, so suck it, ACC fans )

Cincy

With only six starters returning, Brian Kelly needs to look for a way to rebound. They could easily make a bowl, and could vie for third place at the end of the year.

UConn

Props to the Huskies and to Randy Edsall for their turnaround and bringing more college football to the Northeast. They won a share of the Big East title, and bring back nine starters. They should continue to do well.

Louisville

Louisville, a team which choked HARD last year WITH supposedly all-everything QB Brian Brohm, lost Brian Brohm and Hunter Caldwell should replace him well, but their defense still blows. They won't make the postseason.

Pitt

Everyone is saying this will be Pitt's comeback year. Everyone says they're number two in the Big East, but I'm not buying anything yet. They'll make a decent bowl, but it won't be a BCS bowl.

Rutgers

Rutgers, South Florida, and UConn will be fighting for second place. They need to find a replacement for Ray Rice, but Greg Schiano is doing a much better job recruting both in state and in Florida. Mike Teel should be healthier (he was battling a thumb injury last year), and their receiving corps is very good. A lot of starters return on defense as well. Fresno State is an early test for them.

South Florida

Watch out for the Bulls. They could surprise many, and if they play well they could be in the BCS, even if they don't win the Big East. They have an early test against Kansas.

Syracuse

As a Syracuse fan, I seriously hope someone started up firegregrobinson.com. Because now that the Orange lost Mike Williams, they won't even make the St. Petersburg Bowl. They need a new coach NOW.

West Virginia

West Virginia is better this year than they were last year. I don't care. Stewart led West Virginia in a burying of Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl without Slaton. I have this team in the NC game, and they have a tough schedule with Auburn on it.
