So apparently the Cotton Bowl and the Gator Bowl are considering Notre Dame.

I will never watch another college football game if that happens. Especially after SYRACUSE, of all teams, beat Notre Dame. The Irish will most likely finish 6-6 (next weak they get USC).

There are SEC and Big XII teams and even a Big East team or two that are FAR more deserving to make these bowls than ND is. If the Cotton Bowl does it, that means Georgia or LSU will be pushed back a bowl. If it's the Gator Bowl, it will be ESPECIALLY devastating to the Big XII, especially if Mizzou wins the Big XII title game. But even still, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Missouri are top caliber teams and I'd even throw Kansas in ahead of ND. If ND makes the Gator Bowl one of these teams will be screwed. The Big East can take one of these spots as well, and Cincy, Pitt, and WVU are all better than ND.

If ND goes to either bowl I will go to ALL the bars in Hoboken and make SURE NOT ONE OF THEM airs the ND game.

Oh, and now Notre Dame fans are the worst in sports by FAR: ESPN - South Bend fans shower Notre Dame players, police with snowballs - College Football. -CSM

If a team gets screwed, it'll be Mizzou.

LSU shouldn't be bowl eligible to begin with. They are horrific to watch and Ole Miss just took a dump on them at home. There is absolutely no way you can say with a straight face that ND doesn't deserve a bowl while LSU does. That's just incorrect. Both are terrible and should be delegated to 3rd tier bowls at best.

Les Miles should have went to UM IMO.

I'm just glad Michigan's sorry-ass season is over. Hopefully the UM basketball team can build off their UCLA win.

(oh, and I didn't catch the LSU game). -CSM

UM built into a 20+ point loss to Duke. They have the distinct possibility of getting rolled by Duke twice in the same season.

^The loss was by 15 points, not 20+. And you have to remember that Duke was deserving of their high ranking whereas UCLA wasn't. And Michigan could lose to Duke twice and UConn, make those their only OoC losses, and then win 9+ Big Ten games and they should be a 12 seed. -CSM

Sadly they forgot that the NCAA looks at SoS for basketball. That's a downright awful OoC schedule. If they lose to Duke, UConn and Maryland, they shouldn't make the NCAA tourny (barring a Big 11 tourny win) because they can't beat any majors. I don't see them beating Duke. @Maryland and @UConn are going to be tough. If they drop to any of the small cupcakes they scheduled, they should automatically be delegated to NIT at best.

Umm...UCLA's a major. And Northeastern was considered to be on the edge of the bubble at the beginning of the season (and beat Providence (from the Big East) after Michigan blew them away). -CSM

UCLA is overrated. They have guard depth, but I wouldn't peg them as a deep tournament favorite this early. Unless the Pac-10 just falls off a cliff and they roll everyone by 20+, they may not even win it and will probably finish off in the 15-20 ranking range. Good enough for a 4 seed or higher, but they're clearly not the same UCLA we've seen the last few years. Duke OTOH deserves the high ranking and looks legit. Question is if they flame out in the first weekend of the NCAA tourny or not.

NE is not a major. That's like Ohio State fans trying to sell directional Ohio schools as quality opponents in football.

And tournament games don't count as "scheduling a major" since there's no guarantee they'll actually match up against the other teams.

^Bubble team and major aren't one in the same. In fact, in a lot of cases they usually aren't.

And I already said UCLA is overranked. But they are a major, and most likely should be ranked in the 15-20 range.

Duke is always legit in November; it's historically their strongest month. Their weakest is usually the second half of conference play. -CSM

ND will make a bowl game, but I would be extremely disappointed if it was one of those mentioned.

Update: "When we went into the arrangement with the Big East, we did it solely so we'd have an opportunity for Notre Dame. Period."

A team that went 2-4 in conference shouldn't get a bowl bid. Besides, wasn't USF supposed to get the St. Pete's bowl because it's in their backyard?

But really, if I'm a Bowl organizer, sponsor, local hotels, etc., I'd rather a .500 ND squad than some random Big Least school. Why? ND travels extremely well, and the alumns spend a ****ton of money. Let's not kid ourselves and say bowls are for the matchups on the field. This is about $$ first and foremost, and Notre Dame could go 0-12 and they'd still bring more money into a bowl than a .500 4th place random school from a random conference.

^You have to remember that ND is now officially WORSE than the Big East because they lost to the worst team in said league (which is ironically the one in that league I root for). -CSM

Bowls are designed to make money, not provide the best matchups. Again, an 0-12 Notre Dame would bring in more $$ than a 7-4 Big East school (outside of WV, who tends to travel a little better from what I've seen). Who brings in more? Notre Dame and its obsessive alumni and "wish-I-were-an" alumnis or USF, where nobody knows where it is?

Outside of the BCS bowls, I can't really get cranky about matchups because those are just designed for the sponsors and communities to get as much $$ from the tourists as possible.
