Two significant Baseball deaths today

Harry Kalas, the voice of the Phillies, died today getting ready for the afternoon game. ( Harry Kalas, Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster and NFL Films voice, dies at 73 in Washington - ESPN )

And, being a Tigers fan, I feel I have a connection to this one: Mark "The Bird" Fidrych died today. If you don't know who he is, just read this article, written in '06: Flashback: Our last big Mark Fidrych story, from '06 | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press (source for the death: Ex-Tiger Mark 'The Bird' Fidrych found dead | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press )

Fidrych was awesome. I've watched a few ESPN classic games of him, and he was just fun to watch. My dad said that it's the only time he'd ever see ticket sales skyrocket for one pitcher--"People would look on the schedule to see when Fidrych was pitching, then buy those tickets. It'd be 50,000 one day and 5,000 the next."

I don't know much about Kalas, but I do know that it's a big deal for the Phillies fans and ballclub, as well as the media.

So, RIP Harry Kalas and Mark Fidrych.

I felt so dumb when I realized who Harry Kalas was. Didn't know he originally was a baseball commentator, so when I heard he died, I really didn't pay much attention because I wasn't aware of who he was.

When I heard his voice, I was shocked, because I instantly knew it.

Just goes to show how far he reached across all sports.
