Now, you see, when a guy retires, that means he's gonna stop doing his normal everyday job.

Strange how he'd retire the same year that Favre (hopefully) retires.

I can now watch NFL games and not have experience and knowledge, and the ability to make the game interesting.

That's what I think, anyway.

^CBS does the best job with covering NFL games; it always has.

Now we just need to rid the world of Marv Albert, Lou Holtz, Dick Vitale and Joe Buck.

(and get rid of Quint in college lacrosse but I'm probably the only one on this forum who cares about the exponentially increasingly popular sport). -CSM

I'm going miss Madden, no one can deny what he has done for broadcasting, and for football on several tiers. A legend. I thought the only way to get him out the booth would have had to be for him to die.

Good luck with the rest of your life John!

Also, screw Collinsworth, he's a douche.

Wow, you like Collinsworth but not Madden?

I know it's all opinion, but still, I'm not a fan of anyone that has a tendency to not only talk down to players but the audience at times.

Madden was a staple to NFL. How can you not like John Madden? He acted like that on purpose and was the most enthusiastic NFL announcer in my opinion. Someone who loves football that much shouldn't be criticized for it. Hell, the NFL games were named after Madden.

For once, I'm gonna agree with WvsW. I liked Madden, even if his style was ridiculous. It made him lovable, IMO.

The only gimmick sportscaster I like is Keith Hernandez. And his gimmick? He says something funny every day that he DIDN'T USE BEFORE, let alone about 800 times. And I'm sure there are a lot of sportscasters who love and know a lot about their sport without being cliche. Len Elmore, Dan Schulmann, Bob Costas, and Jim Nantz are just a few. -CSM

Marv Alberts isn't anywhere near Holtz or Buck. He's actually really good for basketball. Vitale isn't bad, but he talks too much about the ACC, even if the teams playing are in the Big 10.

Also, unless I missed something that senile toothless old man Holtz doesn't actually broadcast games.

You would. Collinsworth, while better than Michaels, is freaking horrible.

Actually, the NFL hasn't really had a good TV commentator since Howard Cosell. Madden was the best, and that doesn't say much because I think he dumbed the thing down a little too much for my tastes.

With the NFL, the best guys are the homer radio announcers.

^I would say that the old SNF crew was interesting, but not the best at broadcasting.
The current MNF is pretty entertaining, but at times (often) get annoying. The only team I care for happens to be the FOX team that usually covers the "less important game" (I.E. Atlanta), whoever the team is with Baldy.
