NFL 2009-2010

The NFL season starts tomorrow; we need an official topic for it.

Pittsburgh will win the Super Bowl. I don't want to pick an NFC team because the NFC sucks and I think it's somewhat of a tossup.

Everyone says Mark Sanchez is gonna win Rookie of the Year but the Jets will miss the playoffs. I don't think you can have both.

The division winners will be New England, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Tennessee, Atlanta, Denver, and Seattle. The wild cards will definitely have Baltimore and Washington in them (watch out for Washington this year). -CSM

Denver won't win the division. Stop being insane.

And the NFC sucks? Are you kidding? The two are so beyond equal that is isn't even worth mentioning. The only separation is between the pack and NE/Pitt.

NFC North:
Green Bay - Explosive offense, looks like the D is improved.
Minnesota - Favre doesn't cut it
Chicago - Jay Cutler was a great addition, but not enough, especially with an aging defense
Detroit - no where to go but up

NFC East
NY Giants - Someone needs to step up as a deep threat here.
Philly (Wild Card) - Improved everything, they'll chase GIants for best in the East
Dallas - Tough division, ROy Williams needs to show that he was worth that 1st round pick
Washington - Haynesworth addition is nice, but eh, not nearly enough to put them over the top.

NFC South
Atlanta - Tony Gonzalez makes this team even better
Nawlins (Wild Card) - If the defense shows up, don't be surprised by a deep run by Nawlins
Carolina - I dunno why, but I just don't like them this year.
Tampa - Tampa is just a mess right now.

NFC West
Arizona - Seattle may make a push, but the NFC champs win the West again
Seattle - Hasslebeck has some new toys, but it won't be enough.
San Fran - Shaun Hill? We'll see...
St. Louis - Rebuild.

AFC North
Pittsburgh - OL needs to step up if they want to repeat.
Baltimore (Wild Card) - not much to say here
Cincinatti - They'll be better, especially now that Plamer is healthy, but it won't be enough in this tough division
Cleveland - I don't think they're as bad as they're played off to be, they could win 6 or 7.

AFC East
New England - sup brady?
Miami - worst to first, nice story, but doesn't cut it this year
NY Jets - Sanchez comes to Favre's shadow
Buffalo - There's talent, too bad that talent is all fat-headed

AFC South
Indianapolis - Caldwell leads them to a division title
Tennessee (Wild Card) - Loss of Haynesworth doesn't make much of a difference. Game tomorrow night could tell us a lot.
Houston - Trendy pick for the playoffs this year, but not quite.
Jacksonville - MJD can't do it all.

AFC West
San Diego - Runaway division, should go 6-0 in division
Denver Loss of Jay Cutler certainly hurts, and Marshall is also a hindrance, but Orton will lead to some wins
Oakland - Not much to say here either
Kansas City - Matt Cassel is going to have problems in KC

I hope Buffalo loses at least 14 games this year so they can Dick Jauron and grab a QB in the draft.

^^New Orleans has the same defense, except minus McKenzie so they're actually worse in the secondary (even with Sharper) and they're eventually going to not have starting DEs Will Smith and Charles Grant for 4 games when they finally serve their suspension. The outside linebackers are still terrible and they still lack a good 2DT.

Expect more of the same from last year: offense putting up 30+ points, and the defense getting shredded for anywhere between 24 and 42 points depending on the offensive and special teams turnovers.

Sort of. I always find high octane offenses fun to watch at least.

^Meh. I wanted both teams to play sloppy so the Jets will have an easier time. And at least we now have a QB who can actually throw the football. -CSM

I'm picking New Orleans to win the south if they can keep teams to 24 points in under, cause I don't see them scoring under 24 all season.

Don't read too much into holding the Lions. If Culpepper started, they would have been much closer.Saints are still looking at losing both DE's for 4 weeks once the Starcaps thing gets settled. On top of that the secondary outside of Sharper is still trash and hasn't improved. (as opposed to last year the secondary being trash outside of McKenzie). The lineplay is better with Ellis back, but its going to be negligable since the Saints are going to put so many points on the board that teams are going to have to abandon the run.

Basically the Saints need the defense to get 1-2 stops a game and force a turnover a game. If that happens, yeah they'll win the division. Alot depends on how Carolina rebounds after last week and if TB can keep the Caddy running.

I honestly don't know if Delhomme has got it anymore, he's just forcing passes and turning the ball over like crazy. If our defense plays like they did this past week, look for it to be another long game for them, and look for Josh McCown to get the call Week 3. I think John Fox would be more concerned about keeping his job rather than the 20 mil extension Jake got.

It's between ATL and NO, TB will stay in it for a while, but ultimately there's only so much Caddy, Derrick and prolonged-release can do without receiver help. That performance was horrible by Winslow and crew.

Delhomme is basically it this season. They'd be insane to not chase a free agent QB or draft one next year. They just need to basically shift everything into the run game and hope that Delhomme can just go 60% with 2TD to 1INT.

TB won't stay in it because they can't put up the points NO or ATL can. I'm not really sold on the Saints yet (Lions aren't good and Eagles minus McNabb isn't the same), but if they can put up 45/game nobody's going to beat them. Basically, teams have to try to stall out the Saints in FG-land and try to get a positive TO differential against the Saints (and convert on those turnovers). If you can hold the Saints to 20-30, you should be able to win as long as you're not just throwing the ball away. Cautiously optimistic though. I'd rather watch the Phoenix Suns of the NBA than watch some boring crap like the Browns, Broncos, or some other bottomfeeder squad.

Curious to see what Sanchez does once the weather gets bad.

Cleveland is the AFC's version of the Lions/Rams.
