Pac-16?

It's only a matter of time now.

And with Nebraska and maybe Mizzou going to the Little Eleven, what's gonna become of Kansas?

Maybe these 16 team conferences will be the first step towards a breaking of conferences into eight teams. -CSM

I'm for it. It means A&M gets more money and exposure, so that's a plus. I've got friends who will be annoyed that Baylor's getting left out, but they were lucky to get into the Big 12 in the first place.

Don't know why this would lead to 8 team conferences or what the benefit of that would be.

They won't break up into 8 team conferences unless the Bowl system is abolished.

Baylor would be better off joining CUSA imo.

It can't actually do this, I'm sure.

Or the Pac league could just absorb the entire NCAA and hold it hostage.

If Colorado goes to the Pac-10 and Nebraska to the Little Eleven, can the Big Ten and Big XII swap names and trademarks? -CSM

Sounds like A&M may consider parting ways with UT and join the SEC. I'd be okay with that if we still played each other every year.

^You probably would. It would be like Georgia-Georgia Tech, Florida-Florida State, South Carolina-Clemson, Colorado-Colorado State, Utah-Utah State, and Louisville-Kentucky. -CSM

How did this whole "redrawing conference lines" begin anyway?

I've read rumors that A&M is going to get blackballed by all the former teams of the Big XII South in all sports if they go to the SEC, with the idea being that doing so would make Texas A&M irrelevant in the state of Texas and would limit the reach of SEC into the Texas recruiting and TV market.

Well it looks like the remaining Big XII teams are sticking together and UT is getting its own TV channel or something. The schools will all get a lot more money, especially Texas, A&M, and OU, and the rivalries will be preserved, but damn if this isn't the least exciting way this could have gone down.

Fixed.

This is a temporary solution barring them trapping the have-nots in the conference with excessive buyout clauses. Their deal is going to be about 78M, and 20M each is going to OU/UT/A&M with the rest split up between Tech, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Mizzou, Ok. St. and Iowa St.

Keep that in mind. 60M split between 3 teams with 20M split between 7. Total garbage deal, especially considering Texas will further get more with their own network. That was the sticking point: exactly how much money UT can fleece off of a conference.

They managed to keep the auto-berths in basketball and football, but they've lost a championship game (exposure, money) and two teams, one of which is a generally solid football team and the other has a major city market. They need to expand, but I don't see anyone they could land that would help the conference more than hurt it outside of reaching for Memphis (and UH).

The only winner here is UT. Everyone else loses.

ESPN was reporting that the other 7 schools would be getting 14-17M annually each out of the deal.

I saw that too, which really doesn't make sense since they reported the TV deal to be worth about 80M.

60M for OU/UT/A&M + 17*7 = 179M.

This is the article I'm referring to:
Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State stay put in Big 12 Conference - ESPN

It really is kind of unclear. At one point they say the other 7 schools take home about 14-17M, but at other points they say they divided up about 7-10M. That combined with the sidebar with the estimate of about 80M for the TV contract suggests that 60M goes to three teams and the 14-17M goes to the other teams. That works with what they suggest the contract's worth.
