I hate me so much. All kidding aside, I have a pretty serious porblem that requires resolution, and you guys can help me. I've been a big Final Fantasy fan for a while now, but up until...well, basically, theo nly two games I've really played are Final Fantasy 4 and Final Fantasy 6. Great games. My SNES has never received more love....'cept for when we got Kirby Superstar. Anyway, yes, FF4 and 6 kick booty. No doubt. But I've been wanting more for some time. Very recently my baby brother purchased a used PSX and used copy of FF7. Good news is that they both work wonderfully. Bad news is that he's a gamehog and I never get to play and DAMMIT I HATE HIM SO! Ahem. Yes. That's not the problem. I'll play the game as soon as he finishes and collapses in a puddle of his own waste (which could be a while; he's stuck in the Temple of the Acients. Any advice, so I could help hurry him along?) The problem is this: I want more, still. Yesterday I ordered Final Fantasy Anthologies. Like I said, I already own Final Fantasy 6, but the chance to play Final Fantasy 5 AND see Kefka in FMV was too sweet a deal to pass up. My question to your, the forumgoer, is only this: which FF game should I buy? Final Fantasy Eight? Everybody tends to hate it in an almost Chrono Cross-ish fashion, but SilverWind has told me wonderful things about it and I could get it cheap. It looks like a damn good deal. Final Fantasy Nine? I've ehard lots of good things about this game, including the almost hellish return of the Black Mages. A friend of mine played it and highly recommends it, and it's another one I could get cheap, but I don't know anything about it. Final Fantasy Chronicles? I've played FF4 on my SNES and Chrono Trigger on a ROM....guilt is nudging me towards the idea of buyin this so I can play Chrono Trigger legitimately and see those sweet FMVs....but it's not worth the purchase if I can't see Golbez in FMV! For Heaven's sake, somebody tell me if I can see Golbez in FMV! Final Fantasy Origins? Unlike all the others I could get this brand freakin' new, and it'd still be cheap as dirt in comparison to other games. I've always wanted to play some older Final Fantasy games (though in a day where FFVI is literally a mid-point in the series, I guess I already have) and the whole deal just seems very cool to me. The special features in it seem to make up for the horrible, horrible, horrible shortcomings in the FF1 ROM I played. Is it so? IS IT SO? Any advice? Keep in mind I'm limited to one. You named the game I am 100% not getting until every other game on this list has been purchased because I'm too scared of what they've done to Chrono. Thank for the FFIX suggestion though. ![]() [ August 16, 2003, 10:59 AM: Message edited by: Wyborn ] | |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Well, if you liked FF7, chances are you won't like FF8. That's the way the cookie crumbles. I, on the other hand absolutely loved FF8, and not FF7. FF9 is also a great game, if not a little easy (think of it as the Wind Waker of the FFs. ) The fans are pretty much split on both FF8 and FF9. "FF8's retarded. The battle system sucks!" of "I hate FF9! It's so easy, and looks stupid.) neither of those arguments are true. I love all the FFs like my children... except FF7, who is my redheaded step child. I beat it on a regular basis. If you've played CT and FF4, hold off on Chronicles. I don't have Origins yet, so can't help you there. -T2K |

| Guest Posts: n/a | ^--- Hey... I kinda have that same Love FF8-Hate FF7 syndrome. Only it's just a mild "meh too hyped" feeling, not a "gonna kill someone" thing. O-o Get FF8 and FF9. You'll love FF9 for sure, I'll cry if you don't like FF8 XD; |

| Guest Posts: n/a | FF8 and FF9 are good choices. FFC and FFO might be good too. Moo. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | FF8's a very good choice, Interactive Soap Operas are awesome. This isn't Square-enix related, but do you have Legend of Dragoon? That game really rocks too. [ August 17, 2003, 05:02 PM: Message edited by: Douglas Salguod ] |

That, and it has a badass introduction. I'm not sure about Golbez... but there's a picture of him in FMV on the back of the box, so I'd assume so... |

| Guest Posts: n/a | I'd say FF9, cause Vivi is the man. FF8 would make a great book... You can download most of the Chrono Trigger FMVs on the Internet. FFO... ehh, I liked the updated graphics, but I'd say FF9 more. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | I didn't like Crono cross, not only do they kill Lucca. (They should have killed Marle), but some of the bosses are a pain in the arse. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | They are asking for FF not Chrono series. Anyway FF8 is sort of an aquired taste. Not too popular since they reallyu went off on a tangent with that one. FF7 is a good game you should play. Chronicles, Anthologies, and Origins are alright. However instead of remakes go for FFIX. Its enjoyable and pretty fun. As for the Temple of the Ancients...whats he stuck on? That place can get tricky...especially with ol' Demon Gate. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Some parts of Final Fantasy 9 will make you laugh out loud, Especially the part where Zidane and Vivi are "Bonding" and that whole love-letter scene. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | My favorite out of the FF games if VII, unlike T2K's fav FFVI, which is a very unique split in fans.. i guess more prefere VI, but alls safe to say, the differance is the graphics.. (and no, im not a graphics junky) i just happen to like the story in VII better. Chrono Cross.. is tied with FFVII though.. though choice, i liked FFVIII alot too.. wah, they are all really good.. (except 5) Neko^^ |

| Guest Posts: n/a | You have joined the other side Neko....not sure exactly which side that is...but you joined that side none the less. Go for FF9, unless your into graphics. Then if graphics are your schitck go for 8. Cuz 8 will leave you in a coma with its story. |

. You know, not all of us have played that game, so we might not all know what happens. Take that into consideration next time. At least warn people that there's a spoiler. If you've already played FF4 and CT, then I recommend FF9. It was my first FF, and it's still one of my favs. Great story and great gameplay. I think it's better than 8, but I'm not one of those people that hates FF8. Although I haven't played Origins, so I'm not too sure about that. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote of the week: "You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on." - Joe E Lewis Image of the week: ![]() Pointless fact of the week: The longest word in the English language, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is pneumonoultramicroscopics- ilicovolcanoconiosis.
