| Guest Posts: n/a | I was reading through some of the topics here and I'm like "Damn, I should get some of these". I would like an RPG. Please Recommend one for me and describe it a little bit. Thanks! ![]() |

Unfortunately, you can only play it as a ROM. But it's one awesome game. You get to pick one main character, and two secondary characters. Each character has different abilities. The class change system allows you to have different kinds of parties, even though you play the game again with the same characters. I love this game. =D |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Why are you asking this in the Square-Enix forum instead of the RPG forum? It depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you are willing to get a great RPG for nearly $80 (from Atlus. You can most likely find it for less in used game stores and eBay), go for Tactics Ogre. You get a main character whom you get to name, and you get 8 generic characters with whom to start. You can change the class of your main character, the generics, and most special characters, who join you along the way. You get to choose the path you want to take at several points in the game. The battle is conducted on a 3-D board, although the graphics is in 2-D. You get an isometric view of it. You move your units, and you get a variety of commands and magic, most of which aren't just for show. If you can't spend that much, Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSX and Tactics Ogre for the GBA are good choices. They cost significantly less (greatest hit verion of FFT is about $15), and they are very similar to Tactics Ogre (No, the TO for the GBA isn't a remake of the one for the PSX. They have different battle systems and different stories). Both FFT and the GBA TO are inferior to the original TO. [ September 08, 2003, 02:32 PM: Message edited by: Sham Sales, the 4th Angel ] |

Some of my favorite RPGs are Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star IV, Dragon Warrior Monsters, Soul Blazer, Symphony of the Night, and... okay, Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger. I haven't played enough Dragon Warrior IV to have a real opinion of it. Fire Emblem currently isn't available in America, but will be very soon. | |

| Guest Posts: n/a | I'm just looking for some good RPGs. I didn't say that Square is the best. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. They're my favorite two. And why should what someone says about video games make you lose respect for them? Isn't that a bit silly? Moo. [ September 08, 2003, 05:51 PM: Message edited by: Beastman ] |

| Guest Posts: n/a | "Square's the only company that can make a good RPG" type things annoy me. "Square makes good RPGs" type things don't. I wasn't exactly sure which he meant. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Square's not the only company that can make a good RPG, but they're by far the best at doing so. |

| Guest Posts: n/a | I recommend Baldur's Gate 2. This game offers what seems like an infinite number of choices if you are comparing it to a limited Square game. The battle system is old, but it's not obsolete; it's tried and true. It's a great adaptation of the 2nd Edition D&D rules to a pseudo-real time environment (each unit has its own 6 second round). Anyway go for some of the Enix brand too for RPGs. Dragon Warrior is pretty good. Though I missed out on the one on the PSX which apparently did super in sales. [ September 08, 2003, 07:29 PM: Message edited by: Rattan ] | |

I reccomend the Golden Sun games, although some people flame me like crazy when I do. If you have a Gamecube I highly reccomend Skies of Arcadia Legends. |

------- But anyway, I'm saying either Earthbound, SMRPG, or Chrono Trigger on this one. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time, and it's just an awesome game. SMRPG was my first RPG, and your first RPG is one of your favorites(unless it's something like Secret of Mana).Earthbound is just fun.I WOULD have said FF6 if I could actually get through half of it. It's REALLY long. | |

| Guest Posts: n/a | FFT is good, although im not sure you like strategy rpgs or not. Disgaea looks very promising also. I can't recommend any non Strategy RPGs since i haven't played any in awhile that have kept my interest. |

I've played and enjoyed plenty of non-Square RPGs, including Skies of Arcadia, Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall & Morrowind, the Ultima series, Earthbound, Pokemon, Phantasy Star, etc. I should note that I consider CRPGs & console RPGs separate beasts, otherwise it'd be very hard to pick Final Fantasy VI over Morrowind (although I'd still do it). | |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Square hasn't made a good RPG since FFTA. Oh wait... that's going to be released tomorrow. Make that Square hasn't made any good RPGs between FFT and FFTA (both were made by a team taken pretty much wholesale from Quest, I believe). I could have said Quest and Enix were better than Square by a lot a while ago, but neither company exists now. Thus, I'll say that Interplay > Square. |

'Final Fantasy IX' is very good. (Did I miss anyone recommending this... if so... I'm blind today!) ![]() |

| Guest Posts: n/a | Well, there's FF6 of course... Although Codie might object, Shining Force and Shining Force 2 are both good. Pretty much anything that is not Phantasy Star 3 is fair game. -T2K |
